Meet Monica Orozco of Monica Orozco Argentine Tango in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Orozco.

Monica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Like we said, the Argentines, “You don’t choose the tango, the tango choose you” I was born in BsAs, and at the age of 5, my family move to Uruguay. In one theater at that age I dance my first “Cumparsita”without knowing nothing. I was captive for that music, make me fly, give me freedom. Years later we back in BsAs, I start to study acting, dance, sing, and start to work and many Classical theaters, doing everything. One day in one film co-productions with Argentina -France, I dance Again with one of the most important tango dancers at the moment Osvaldo Zotto, and one more time, the music, the freedom was back to me. I was feeling in love “real love”. After that the journey start, I start to travel for East Asia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, then Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco.

I Decided to live in LA, after my daughter was born. My passion, devotion, and beliefs of that dance create in me the desires to write all my expertise, acknowledge and feelings. The Tango have one hidden treasure, “The Transformation, one Touchable Hope”. Based in that idea, UCLA University called me and I start to work like a professor (I wrote the syllabus) and they were very successful. For that, I started to travel to France, Paris for conferences and seminars. After Italy, London, La Reunion island – French I got one interview by French TV. In that moment, I was already start to write my method and filming the video “The Art of Tango ” and those ones I propose to the people to discover the poetry of tango and teach. That take me one day to Lebanon, I start seminars there and they were very successful, I went first time in 2007, in that moment one of my students was a filmmaker, original assistant of Francis Ford Coppola, Maya Tabet Noun, she was doing one documentary for “The Red Cross” about the Lebanese – Israel war, together we travel to the south of Lebanon at the War Zone for the documentary plus bringing medicines. That was one shock for me , one city with no hopes touches my soul deeply, saw the eyes of the people are empty, so in the middle of that feeling, the “Magic of the Tango, the  Touchable Hope – people was fascinated for that one more time the music, the Freedom Years later that director wrote one script, and I travel to Lebanon ,they take me to the remote villages, Deïr Al Qamar” and I start to teach Tango to each one person in that village in the mount of Lebanon , to the priest, high school, Churches, and to blind people and dance with them in one moment all the village were dancing Tango and feel the magic of the transformation of the dance. All of these was filmed and in one documentary-film, named “Nasmet Tango”, premiere will be on 2017. One fascinated and real history about this dance, after that back to America teachings semi aires, and transfer the expertise, feelings, and freedom. Create shows directing, I got interview by newspaper TV and radio. And I will travel soon to Europe for the follow up of the docu-film. That are the stories I considered most import in my tango dance” life and create who I am. Follow the feelings of that freedom with my 5 year old.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it was not smooth, the road had many struggles… challenges in anything, language, culture, food, loneliness. But the faith and the believes in myself keep me walking forward. One of the most important I considered was the challenge of to be in the war zone. The fear was overwhelming in my heart, the noises of the bombs was scary.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Monica Orozco Argentine Tango – what should we know?
I’m a teacher, and directing shows like a “Tango Teacher”, I create classes for the Tango technique based in E’tude exercises to create the perfection of the move beside that’s I like to teach the poetry of the dance “The Art of Tango”.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My passion, my power, my beliefs.
