Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Geisz Benitez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Budapest, Hungary. All my Ballet and Jazz training was completed there. After coming to the US, I started teaching dance classes at private schools in the Los Angeles area. In April 2011, I opened my DB Dance Studio in Glendale. The studio is located in Kenneth Village, a small but adorable neighborhood center.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In business there is never a smooth road. We had some ups and downs but now we are well known in our area and doing very well.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in beginner dancers and focus on ensuring that they will fall in love with dance. The younger the dancer, the harder it is to keep them interested. That is probably the reason why a lot of studios do not offer classes for young children. My teachers are very creative with their lesson plans to ensure there is never a dull moment in class. Keeping the classes fast paced and fun is the secret to retain our young dancers. We teach Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Combo classes for ages 3 and up. Our annual recital is a great way for our students to showcase their talent.
What were you like growing up?
I was always an active, outdoor kind of person. I played a lot of sports like tennis, basketball, volleyball and of course took a lot of dance classes.
