Thanks for sharing your story with us James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve produced makers markets for seven years staring in the Hudson Valley of NY with Phoenicia Flea and later expanding out west with Mojave Flea. Since Covid hit, we had to quickly pivot as the return of our public events are nowhere in sight. Many people who do what we do went digital, but we’re interested in the personal connection of experiential retail. We decided to create a brick and mortar version of our marketplace and so was born Mojave Flea Trading Post located inside The Shops at 1345 in Palm Springs, CA.
Has it been a smooth road?
The pandemic catalyst for opening a retail store was not easy, but putting it together was. It was a solution and our way of keeping it moving, staying sane and extending our platform of showcasing handmade, sustainable and meaningful products.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We’ve worked with hundreds of the best makers and merchants across the country with our public market events. Those relationships allowed us to put together a brink and mortar store quickly and yet highly curated. The response from locals and travelers here in Palm Springs is amazing. People are craving cool and relevant shopping experiences. We built it and they come.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Well, it works to our advantage to be operating in a destination town like Palm Springs. So many people travel here to get away from the reality of it all. People in a vacation headspace love to eat, drink and shop. They are more open and attentive to things. Many of the brands we sell are from LA and they stand out here in a way that might feel over saturated there.
