Today we’d like to introduce you to MinnieBAD.
Hi MinnieBAD, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started creating The Beauty Bar by MinnieBAD in 2016 in my home city Long Island NY. I’ve always been into beauty & fashion growing up. I remember first getting into makeup doing all the crazy eye shadow colors, the blush, lashes, and my dad would rain on my parade lol; “why you have all that makeup on?”… but there was a method to the madness here, a method I call the creation of my life. I didn’t know that at the time but I just enjoyed it. In 2017, I became a licensed esthetician and began working in the skin care industry. In 2020, I moved to Los Angeles from New York.
In 2022, I became a licensed cosmetologist and focused my studies on the science of hair color & haircutting. It’s not the only thing I do but it is what I am most passionate about along with hair growth and hair health. I never once thought that becoming a cosmetologist was going to be a part of the plan. I didn’t think I’d actually enjoy doing hair for a living. I used to do family and friends’ hair all the time and I didn’t care for it then really. Once I went to school is when I realized I’d actually love doing hair as a career. The beauty industry is a whole other alley of art and self-expression that I absolutely love to be a part of. Moving to California was the real start of taking a chance at making my dream my reality, along with one little hater along the way who tried to downplay me & my goals. That pushed me to really make this happen; the people who doubted me.
I did it for myself & those who loved and believed in me the whole time. I always find a way and I always make things happen. I don’t gamble but if there is one thing I’m willing to bet on it is definitely myself! It is amazing to see my dreams manifesting before my eyes. This is just the beginning; it doesn’t stop here. I can’t wait to see what embarks on this new journey as a California state-registered business owner. We just opened in August so I am looking forward to what the year to come has to bring as we finish off the rest of this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been easy getting to this point especially when you are doing everything the legal legit way. Also, doing it all on your own isn’t easy. I’ve been a single mom since I was 17 going on 18 years old. So balancing supporting my daughter and trying to fulfill my passion at the same time has had its challenges. Sometimes you just want things to happen quickly but the reality is it takes so much time; but it’s worth the wait. I think I have the same challenges any business owner starts out with the waiting game of when the business is actually making a profit and not breaking even between clients and expenses, growing clientele, building social media presence. It’s all about just being prepared for the worst. Always have a plan; without a plan, you will fail.

Here at The Beauty Bar By MinnieBAD we do Hair, Beauty, & Skin Care services. We are appointment ONLY based. You can locate us on google maps if you just type in the name of the business. We are known for Dimensional color, Locs, Hair extensions & Lash extensions. What separates The Beauty Bar MB from other salons is we provide a luxury service experience w| Luxury products. We have Referral rewards programs, loyalty programs, membership coming soon, & complimentary refreshments & snacks for our guests. All of our first-time clients receive 20% off their first visit.

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me along this journey; whether it be donations, coming in supporting the business or sharing the business with your friends and family. Everyone who believed in me, we are almost there. I’d like to thank my mom Angelique LaQua for always having my back and believing that I could do anything I put my mind to. My mom has definitely made me the person I am today. I’d like to thank my dad’s wife Valerie smith for always contributing and supporting and also believing in me.
