Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikhael Bassilli.
Hi Mikhael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Mikhael Bassilli, Founder of Scriptmatix.
My background is as a story developer, entrepreneur, and filmmaker. I was born and raised in Los Angeles to immigrant parents, and, like many kids from that kind of upbringing, I learned independence early. My childhood was a bit chaotic; two parents, both working hard to make ends meet, both living on opposite sides of the city. When I wasn’t studying, I spent a lot of time alone playing, observing, thinking, and sketching characters. Looking back, that was probably where my storytelling began.
I started living in the Valley to kick off high school, and that’s where I made new friends and took a strong interest in music. I played saxophone, guitar, and sang in a handful of local bands. We played up and down the coast, tiny clubs, backyard shows (wherever we could), and for a while, that was the ideal.
But being young and naive, I eventually hit that crossroad most creatives face: the tension between art and responsibility. My parents wanted stability. I wanted to keep playing. My father, who’s a lifelong entrepreneur, encouraged me to channel my energy into business. With his help, I studied for my real estate license and started my first company; a small mortgage brokerage I ran out of my bedroom.
I hated it at first. But when I started making money, it took a little of the edge off. I bought my first car, learned how to sell, and gained my first taste of independence. Still, something was missing. The work wasn’t fulfilling. The artist and kid in me was still restless and wanted to “play”.
That’s when I pivoted into filmmaking. I enrolled at UCLA for screenwriting and producing. I discovered that my true strength wasn’t just in writing stories, but in helping others bring their ideas to life, engineering solutions and creative problems, and building meaningful collaborations.
Since then, I’ve written, produced, and developed hundreds of digital projects, from scrappy indie shoots and advertisements to feature film. Along the way, I also built several businesses, ranging from software development to e-commerce to service-based b2c.
Scriptmatix is the culmination of every phase of my journey. It combines everything I’ve learned about storytelling, technology, and business.
I’m kind of like a kid again, doing what I love; creating and helping other storytellers and filmmakers create, develop, and share their stories… plus.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been anything but smooth.
I’ve had to bury my dreams more than once. I’ve lost myself, rebuilt myself, felt despair chasing a vision, and spent most of my time in the depths of uncertainty.
There’s a trap that many young creatives in this city fall into, and I wasn’t immune. They see art less as an expression of truth and more as a shortcut to status. It’s about “making it.” And when you chase status instead of something honest, over time you forget what it feels like to create without an agenda.
That conditioning led to some deep confusion. It made me question my purpose, my meaning, and it obstructed my ability to create freely. Because, at some point, the pressure of survival sets in and the paycheck becomes more real than the passion. For most creatives, that’s where the dream starts to fade.
A large part of my journey has been about confronting that dissonance; between what I thought I should be and what I truly am. For me, the path hasn’t just been professional… it’s been spiritual. It’s been about stripping away ego, ambition, and illusion, and getting back to honesty. That’s the only place creation can thrive.
I truly find joy in building systems that help people create and empowering others to tell their truth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Scriptmatix is an AI-powered creative development platform built for screenwriters, filmmakers, and storytellers who want to make world-class stories without losing their humanity in the process.
At its core is Story Engine, a tool I personally engineered to mirror and elevate the professional story development process. It’s not a “one-click screenplay generator.” It’s a creative system that guides writers through the real process, from idea, to treatment, to outline, to finished script, all while preserving the creator’s vision at every step.
But what truly sets Scriptmatix apart is our philosophy. I believe AI is being used wrong right now. Too many storytellers are surrendering their creative agency and expecting machines to write for them. That’s a mistake. Art without effort has no value. Effort is what gives meaning to creation, and that will never change.
The role of AI is not to replace that effort, but to transmute and elevate it. To expand human imagination, not erase it. No matter how good a machine becomes, it’s still your responsibility to make it better.
Story Engine was built on that principle. It integrates AI tools within a structured creative process that keeps the writer in control. One of our most revolutionary tools, the Character Journey Builder, is based on a system of astrological blueprinting that allows writers to design complex emotional arcs from the start, something that traditionally only emerges through multiple revisions.
Scriptmatix bridges the old and the new; the wisdom of story with the power of technology. It was built by storytellers, not technologists. We don’t chase hype or shortcuts; we build tools that respect the craft, honor the human behind the screen, and make storytelling more accessible to millions of creators who’ve been shut out of traditional systems.
What I want readers to know is this: Scriptmatix isn’t just software, it’s a movement.
We’re in a new creative era where technology and artistry coexist, where storytellers can work faster, but it’s also easy to lose the humanity in the process. Our ethos is about maintaining integrity and supporting stories born from honest experience and the quest for meaning.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, there’s one thing I’m particularly excited to share, because I believe it represents a real leap forward in the art and science of storytelling.
At Scriptmatix, I created something called the Character Journey Builder. It’s a tool that uses astrological blueprinting to help writers design deeper, more resonant character arcs. It’s truly a recalibration of how we think about character and transformation.
The soul of every story lives inside its characters. Yet character work has been the most misunderstood and seemed to always take a backseat to structure. What this model does is give writers a way to explore not just what a character does, but why they do it, and what truth, lesson, or destiny their journey is meant to reveal.
To me, this isn’t about mysticism, it’s about meaning. The substrate of human experience is meaning, purpose, and destiny. Like a painter works with color or a musician with notes, a storyteller works with emotion and spiritual truth, and AI should exist to help us discover and integrate truths with greater fidelity, not strip them away.
That’s what the Character Journey Builder does: it helps writers map the emotional and spiritual DNA of their stories, allowing them to create characters that feel alive and like authentic reflections of our shared humanity.
I see it as a return to storytelling’s spiritual roots, where narrative isn’t just entertainment, but a mirror for human evolution.
