Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Williamson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was a little boy, my father had a home video camera he would never let me touch, because the value was too great financially, and nostalgically. My sister was able to hold the camera and I always wanted to be that person with the camera in my hand. Finally, when I was six years old my dad let me get my hands on the camera. After that moment, I knew what I wanted t do with my life.
That moment started a chain reaction of making little documentaries with my dad for school projects and learning the early stages of editing. I would venture off and film everything, making small YouTube videos while honing in my craft through media classes in high school. Eventually, University was the next step where I studied film and started freelancing as a cinematographer and editor. These were the days of filming many interviews, music videos, live events, and weddings.
There was always a want for more in my life, so this want turned into honing in my love of lighting, and camera movement to tell compelling stories. There is never a time when your craft is finished, it only evolves into something greater every time you use these skills to one up the last production you were part of. Hard work, dedication, and a constant intake of knowledge is how I feel like I have been able to make many great films, music videos, and social media campaigns with my team at Sleepless Format today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If the road was smooth, I would have never learned anything. Of course, there had been some bumps in the road, but those bumps are what make you stronger. If I never failed, I would never have been able to correct my mistakes and make something better out of those mistakes. I stay honest, true, and real with my self and never take the easy route just because it is easy. I have always tried to do the right thing while making media that I care about with a great team in my wheelhouse. That is the true key to success, having a solid team that makes a production soar into a realm you never thought could be possible, but always knew in the back of your head was, with those great people you surround yourself with.
Please tell us about Sleepless Format.
Sleepless Format was born out of dream that became a reality. This dream was to become our own boss’ and provide a service that we felt would bring value and a creative edge into anyone’s lives or businesses. Stories are the first thing on our mind when delivering videos, films, or any other art piece. Working with the highest caliber colleagues and well thought out ideas is what this company will always deliver in the end.
We Specialize in Creative ideas that blossom into stories that are constructed with a team that cares about the each individual projects needs. Sure, there is a formula we follow to make the best possible media for each project, but no project is the same. We tend to think as big as we can, and then hone in a vision that can be delivered within a budget that allocates itself with the resources we have or what we outsource to deliver something great.
What Sleepless Format does best is never limiting our vision due to any restrictions that are put in front of us. We always find a way to make the impossible happen. Our team sees a fork in the road, and we find a way to send two vehicles in both directions in order to not limit what may be in store down those two avenues. This is what sets apart from the competition. We care. We care about the needs and wants of our clients. We listen, we ask the important questions, and we never sacrifice quality for quantity. Communication is everything, and we never take that quality lightly.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is subjective. I do believe that luck does have some influence in life, but if the work is done and you work hard towards your goals, anything can be achieved. Luck is just a nice sentiment that helps motivate anyone into the next realm of life.
