Meet Mike Post and Carly Rosenthal of MooseCat Recording

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Post, Carly Rosenthal.

Mike, Carly, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
MooseCat started in 2015 when we decided we wanted a place to record our bands and a rehearsal space. From there it evolved into recording other artists in 2016 when we officially opened. Mike had been working in various other studios around LA and was ready to settle down in a home base recording studio.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
MooseCat aims to create a community of musicians and artists who are looking for a space to get their music down in recorded form. In addition to being musicians and songwriters ourselves, we love helping other artists see their vision through. Producing and recording is its own art form and is as collaborative as it gets.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
It’s a really tough balance to make a living through any kind of art. Luckily, we’ve managed to turn the studio into a business that helps support our passion projects. We try to be as artist friendly as possible and making the best possible music with good people is always our priority. We also do other work outside the studio that helps financially. Regardless of if you’re making money or not, and there was time when we made nothing at all, it’s important to make as much time as possible to work on your craft, even if it means shunning a social life, etc.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
The music we have worked on at the studio is available from different artists throughout both the internet and in physical forms. The bands we play in, Young Creatures and Carly & The Universe are a good example of music from the studio.  There are tons of artists we’ve worked with who have recently released music we love, including Glacial Palms, Sara Dee, Dream Phases, Racquet, and The Evening Guests!
