Meet Mike Patterson of Romeo Power in Vernon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Patterson.

Mike, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Toledo, Ohio. Working-class Irish Catholic family…both parents started small businesses. I started JEM Trading Co. (Jim, Eric, Mike) when I was nine years old and pretty much have been launching companies ever since….my last four companies were FedCel, acquired by Menlo backed Profitline, Smobile acquired by Juniper, InAuth acquired by American Express and my current company Romeo Power that designs and manufactures battery technology.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Business is the only sport where you get better as you get older…I made colossal mistakes and screwed up again and again throughout my 20’s and 30’s. I guess I am known for founding highly disruptive companies and pivoting the business plan until the sweet spot is discovered…+ a never say die attitude.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Romeo Power story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m the founder and CEO of LA-Based Romeo Power. We design and manufacture the most high-performance battery packs on the planet. Our mission is to advance energy tech to eliminate energy poverty.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Funny question…every bit of good luck comes with a challenge on the same scale and every bit of bad luck comes with a gift or lesson on the same scale …so I say it’s all good!
