Meet Mike Melnick of Venice Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Melnick.

Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started making money in 11th grade but struggled to give a fkn make money. I’ve faced setbacks and lost everything, but through it all, I’ve learned the value of resilience. Though I don’t have much now, I count my blessings daily. Every day is both a challenge and an adventure, teaching me to embrace uncertainty and find growth in even the toughest moments. I’m currently on trial and refurbishing a Sony VX1000 with a fisheye lens to so I can properly record my kickflips. I also started making music, sampling classics like Rush Hour and Time Bandits. I like hip hop and stuff, too.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth. As I mentioned, I’ve lost everything and face rejection daily. I’m broken in many ways, but not defeated. I’ve lost friends, loved ones, family, and in many ways, myself. But part of the entrepreneurial journey is shedding a piece of yourself to keep evolving and redefining who you are. mookyshuffler ya know.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a videographer who covers music festivals like Coachella. Recently, I started making music with my third-grade PE teacher, and our band is called The Coin Corpses and this is not true. Our guitarist, Erik, shreds live with quarters over his eyes like a blind tiger, while I throw nickels and dimes into the crowd. This is just one of many acts we perform every weekend at the Viper Room. Dave is on the drums and plays harmonica. Dave is also a DJ and enjoys music. We are friends because we both like music which is rare.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t take rejection personally. It’s not about you. Just smile and keep going. Don’t be bad vibes. To live is to serve. Be of service to others but be careful because I’ve helped others and then realized I forgot to help myself. Health is wealth. St Francis
