Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Keady.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Boston and grew up south of Boston In a family where I am the oldest of four kids; we were raised Irish Catholic by my parents and were always told we could accomplish any goals we were committed to attaining. I consider myself very lucky, my parents were always my biggest fans when playing sports growing up (Lacrosse and Football), and always pushed me to improve my grades to eventually get into a good college. I went to College at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in both Criminal Justice and Psychology. I don’t have much use for the CJ degree these days, but I find myself internally drawn to the psychological aspects of everyday social interaction.
When it’s after hours or weekends and I’m not focused on my duties as a Territory Manager with Aerolase, I’m either hanging out with friends at the beach, snowboarding and ALWAYS playing with my best friend- my pup- Rocco. I adopted Rocco when he was ten months old and we’ve been the best of pals ever since. He’s a Siberian Husky, which means his high energy and active nature is a perfect match for me… and certainly keeps me young!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My road of life has certainly not been the smoothest; I graduated out of college in 2010 when the economy was in shambles, making my early years as a professional in sales quite challenging- yet I now look back and appreciate those early obstacles that make today’s frustrations as a professional seem like a field day. My family and friends also had a tremendous loss when my Mom (my “Ma” as I called her) lost her fight to cancer in 2014. I believe that losses and struggles make us harder and more resilient as adults; and although I’d give anything to spend another day with my Mom, I know she’s looking down with a smile on me for how far I’ve come to reach my dreams.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Aerolase – what should we know?
Aerolase a Medical Device company is based out of Tarrytown, New York (about an hour north of NYC). We specialize in Laser devices that have a major focus on Vascular and Skin related issues that many people struggle with treating- not only individuals who suffer from these issues personally but also doctors who struggle to provide treatment solutions to these very common “disease states.”
We are known for the latest cutting edge laser technology on the market; diverse, versatile, and with 36 different FDA cleared treatment applications safe for ALL skin types on just one laser device (the NeoElite). The NeoElite is our flagship device in a sense; with a patented 650 Microsecond pulse width, this device delivers a pulse duration below the thermal relaxation time of human skin, which is 800 milliseconds. In laymen’s terms, this laser penetrates deep enough to target and suppress the vascularity that feeds many disease states such as Acne, Rosacea, and Melasma- at the same time the 650 microsecond pulse width is so optimal that the treatments offer the highest efficacy in laser medicine without burning the skin and thus creating a very tolerable treatment experience. When Kathy Lee Gifford received an anti-aging skin tightening treatment from this device on “The Today Show”, her words were, and I paraphrase, “no pain no gain is a thing of the past!”
I’m very proud to represent Aerolase in Los Angeles. Aside from offering a product that changes people’s lives in a very real way (improving patient’s self-confidence and providing a treatment that finally works where all other treatments in their past have failed them), my colleagues and myself take a serious initiative to set up our physician clients for success. We do so by consulting them as their “industry advocate”, as well as educating them on best practices for internal marketing. Aerolase additionally provides social media marketing support to give our clients the best possible exposure in their market.
Unlike some other medical device companies, I have access to every resource I may need throughout the workday/week. For example, I can call my Chief Operating Officer Joe Hurley and know that I’ll get the answers or help I need right away. It’s very much a HIGHLY professional organization with a very close-knit line of communication.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My Dad James, who is my role model, best friend, and primary mentor, has been in sales his whole life and is the Senior Vice President of Sales for a high tech company back in Boston. He’s my go to guy whenever I need advice that may not be specific to Aerolase and medical devices, but certainly for plan of action other challenges that arise throughout any sales process. He’s typically the first person I call to vent to when I’m experiencing frustration, but also the first person I call to share my stories of success with.
Next, my manager Mark Corgnell. He’s the one I call when I need clarity on content that relates to our industry. What I appreciate most about Mark is that I never feel like I’m bothering him, and he never makes me feel as though he’s rushing to get off the phone with me. If I have a question, we discuss it thoroughly and apply his response/answer to a real-time situation- making sure I fully grasp his message.
There are so many I could list that play a role in my day to day success, however it is these two whom I speak with on almost a daily basis; and I’m extremely grateful for their mentorship.
I’d also like to recognize Aerolase’s marketing team, Sean Johnson and Amanda Pisani for their consistent hard work and dedication to the success of not only myself and my colleagues, but also to the success of our physician clients.
Additionally, Art Efremkin, Director of Business Development who has been integral in research support and my ongoing success.
