Meet Mihaela Stan of Diana’s Flowers in Studio City and Valley Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mihaela Stan.

Mihaela is known in Hollywood as the floral designer who has helped many A-List celebrities plan lavish events, decorate and surprise their loved ones with fresh flowers, plants, and specialized gourmet gifts.

She is the owner of Diana’s Flowers which is centrally located near the Disney, Warner Brothers, ABC, CBS, NBC, 20th Century production studios. Some of her famed clients include Academy Award nominee and actress Queen Latifah, and celebrity wedding planner David Tutera.

Hollywood is a long way away from Mihaela’s native Romania where she lived under a communist government. The florist could only dream about being an entrepreneur under the controlling regime. She survived the times by studying mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest where she worked for 11 years in quality control.

“I did what everyone said I couldn’t do. I transformed a square into a circle with the opening of my first flower shop named after my older daughter,” Mihaela says. Bianca’s Flowers grew to a franchise of three shops before Mihaela closed the business in Romania to move to the U.S. This time, she named the shop after her younger daughter, Diana.

Mihaela is discussing her struggles to become Hollywood’s top floral designer in her upcoming memoir. The one-part autobiography and one-part self-help guide details the emotional and physical abuse Mihaela suffered on her rise to the top. She hopes it will inspire women and budding entrepreneurs.

The busy entrepreneur also earned her Master’s in Business Administration in 2014 from Western Governor’s University. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from California State University, Northridge and an Associates of Arts degree from Los Angeles Valley College.

Mihaela lives in Studio City, California. She has two daughters, Diana and Bianca.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not easy – when I first moved to US in 2004 I didn’t speak English so I went to school to learn and improve my English language. Being a single mom with two children it wasn’t easy. After two years, I opened my business.

Attending classes before work, going back to school in the night, or going on the weekends it looked doable at first, but then it was also too demanding. I didn’t give up especially after 2008 crisis I wasn’t sure I will make it with my business so my plan B was a Bachelor’s degree. When I Graduated with my Bachelor’s, my business was already successful. This didn’t stop me to go for my MBA.

Please tell us about Diana’s Flowers.
Mihaela founded her successful, family-styled business in 2007 and named it after her youngest daughter. Diana’s Flowers is Mihaela’s second flower shop. The first business, with a history of more than 20 years and named after her older daughter, merged into Diana’s Flowers when the location changed.

Mihaela gained old world experience in producing floral designs in her native Romania. Diana’s Flowers is a relatively new, modern, family operated and owned Florist.

Wedding Floristry is a passion. We love it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory- playing in our back yard with my sister -surrounded by the beautiful flowers and fruit trees. Also, my mom cooking delicious food.
