Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Jurado.
Miguel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Like many before me, I was introduced to CrossFit by a friend. I went to the closest box near my home and tried out a class – and it kicked my butt. I instantly wanted more. I began to take as many as classes as I can to get better and also to learn from different coaches. Years went by before I decided that I wanted to open my gym as a way to introduce my passion to others and help them to be fit and healthy. I would eventually go on to receive my certification to be a CrossFit Trainer and opened CrossFit BPM in November 2014. Our goal has been and always will be to help other reach their health and fitness goals. My team and I feel truly gratified when can help one person improve from not being able to walk a mile to eventually running their first 5k. We get such a great kick seeing someone complete one pull-up for the first time in their life. The people at CrossFit BPM have developed an amazing bond and new friendships with each other, like a second family. People come to CrossFit BPM to train with their friends and enjoy each other’s company after.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road by any means. We are a small business so it has its ups and downs but we push through. It’s difficult to lose members as they move to a different town or state as they are all family to us.
CrossFit BPM – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our specialty is CrossFit and CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. These are the core movements of life. CrossFit BPM is known for being a technically driven gym. It is our belief that everyone become proficient at all the movements we teach them. We are proud to have trainers from different sports backgrounds in order to provide feedback for different members. We are also very proud of creating programs to help our members pass the physical exams for law enforcement and fire agencies.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to us is when we see our members continuously evolve. We don’t need to see big PRs (personal records). We want to see that each one is learning and pushes themselves to become a better version of themselves. Success is also when a member refers someone to CrossFit BPM because we have made an impact in their lives.
