Meet Midtown Photographer: Henry Finch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Finch.

Henry , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey in photography began when I bought my first camera, a Nikon to record high-quality videos. What happened was I didn’t end up using it for video. I thought to myself I have this great camera why not go out and take pictures. I began taking pictures while on my hikes and asking friends to pose for me and after that, I just grew to love it. I love the idea of being to freeze a moment in time. I think it’s a beautiful almost superpower that we posses.

Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say smooth but it hasn’t been that difficult. The way I see it I’m still paying my dues. It’s hard to find the right people to work with and it’s hard to find good jobs but I think it’s all part of the game.

Is there some part of you work that is particularly difficult?
The hardest part is finding work as a freelance photographer. Jobs can come very few and far between but when you finally get a good gig it can be totally worth the wait.

What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
I define success the way most people due. If I can live comfortably doing what I love then I would consider myself successful. In relevance to the photography world specifically, I would consider myself successful when my work is being published on a regular basis and when it begins to inspire other artists.

So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
I don’t have any plans for the future to be exact but I would like to work for a movie studio in some capacity or work with a photo agent that tailors to that. I’m a huge fan of music and film so I would like to use my photography in that sense, perhaps shooting album covers or movie posters.
