Meet Michelle Steele of Inner Glimmer Skincare and Wellness Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Steele.

Michelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied in the healing arts of Ayurveda, Reiki and massage therapy at the Florida College of Natural Health in Pompano Beach, Fl. I started my career shortly after graduating in 1999 working for Spas in luxury boutique hotels in South Beach Miami.

During that time, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for many A-list celebrities, top models and political figures, I was building up a great following. I had a vision of moving out west to one day open my own healing center. I was given the opportunity in 2002 to move to Los Angeles to consult for and launch a Spa for the luxury hotel group’s sister property on Sunset Blvd.

So I sold everything I owned and drove cross-country alone, out west to California, I had less than three thousand dollars to my name and had no idea where I was going to live, but I had a great opportunity in front of me to take me a step closer to my dream, so I rolled the dice. Shortly after intuitively hiring a great team of therapist and launching the Spa on Sunset, I was recruited to do the same for a luxury fitness center, and so it all began.

After the birth of my daughter, I acquired my Esthetic license and became a dually licensed therapist; I soon learned that combining my healing background with skincare was my calling. I spent many years in Spa management, hiring teams, training therapist on multiple modalities, writing protocols, and driving sales, I was learning the business side of the beauty.

I finally decided it was time for me to get back in the treatment room and tend to my clientele versus managing teams and driving sales, so I became a solo practitioner and opened Inner Glimmer Skincare in 2012.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It certainly has not been a smooth road, especially after leaving a good salary with health benefits to becoming self-employed, but I do like to roll the dice any chance I get. Every challenge I faced was a learning opportunity and has made me a wiser small. Business owner and a stronger woman none the less.

The biggest struggle that I have been faced with is finding a way to have balance in my life while running a business full time while raising my daughter as a single mother, I’m learning to delegate, and it’s definitely time for me to hire employees!
