Michelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out when I was five months pregnant with my only daughter. I thought it was important to document her life and ours as well. So I picked up a camera and started shooting families, friends, and couples for the art of it. I honestly didn’t think photography would be a career path for me until I shot my first wedding. I absolutely fell in love with weddings.
During weddings, everyone was entirely on cloud nine and that feeling going into “work” was the best feeling, and it changed my whole perspective on what I can do if I put my soul into it. With a lot of patience and support from my husband, after my baby was born, I took a leap of determination and became a full-time wedding photographer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely NOT. It took a few years to have stability in my business. I was new at this, and I wanted to do everything the right way. It took years to save up money to buy the right equipment, and go to workshops to learn from the best. I was then good at taking photos and delivering them to my clients, and I’ve had nothing but 5-star reviews.
However, I needed to learn a lot more on the Business aspect and networking. That took a little longer to achieve. I eventually made connections on a referral base and thankfully I have a good reputation in this area. It only took about seven-eight years to get there.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am the owner and lead photographer of Michelle Ramirez Photography. I specialize in Weddings and lifestyle photography. I am known for my wedding photography mostly. I am seriously so proud of the stability of my business and how it is growing so fast every year. I tend to book weddings 10-14 months ahead, and that usually keeps me organized and ready for all weddings to come.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The passion. I genuinely care about ALL my couples and their special day. In this business, you have to have the patience and the drive to succeed. I am never settling for less than 110%.
The passion in all my photos shows. I want people to feel the emotion in the images. I want my couples to see what I see when I look at them. It is truly priceless to see my couples cry with pure love and joy when they see their photos.
