Meet Michelle Lane of Summit Fitness in Covina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Lane.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Summit Fitness was originally started by my husband, Chris Nguyen, and his business partner Mike in May of 2013. They both came from a large commercial gym where they were in management and they wanted to create a more personalized approach to personal training and fitness. I found the gym in 2014 as I was working on my personal training certification and knew it was a special one of a kind place. I began training my first clients there in late 2014.

In 2016, I began managing the gym and dove head first into the business. At Summit, we believe in coaching people through all aspects of life and the best way to do this is through building strong relationships and trust. Everybody has goals, big and small, and being able to come along side people in all walks of life to help reach those goals is incredibly rewarding. It’s often a long, and twisted road but we walk it together.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our biggest challenge has been building awareness of the gym in our local community. After almost 5 years in business, we still have people walk in saying they had no idea we exist! In overcoming this, word of mouth and referrals have been our biggest asset. These referrals are also the highest form of praise we can receive. We believe doing good work and a “drop in the bucket” every day is the best way to continue moving forward and making a difference.

Personal training is offered everywhere, but at Summit we strive to build strong relationships with our clients that are deeper than just addressing their physical fitness needs. We can honestly say that our clients are also some of our closest friends.

At Summit, we don’t offer regular gym memberships, instead, we focus mainly on personal training. We consider ourselves a private training studio- or a “boutique” gym. Personal training is about creating a personalized workout program for every individual that addresses what they need most. No two people are exactly alike so there isn’t a workout program that is best for everyone. In creating a program, we analyze the person as a whole- how they walk, where they feel pain, how much they sleep, how often they eat, their level of stress in daily life, etc. All of these basic lifestyle questions along with basic movement assessments help us discover strengths and weaknesses. From there, we create a program to help progress people to their goals. It is our goal that every experience with personal training at Summit Fitness far surpasses all expectations and provides a fresh view on health and overall wellness.

Another amazing aspect of Summit Fitness is our strong network of independent trainers who work out of our facility. At this time, we have 8 independent trainers who utilize our gym daily and they are a big part of the special community we have here.
