Meet Michelle Jett of Michelle Jett Decorating Den Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Jett.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into interior design began with a simple passion in my teenage years. I loved sketching floor plans and reimagining spaces, which eventually led to designing homes for my family.

My design sensibility comes from my childhood. My mom filled our home with creative projects that sparked my imagination, teaching me everything from macramé to cake decorating. These seemingly unrelated skills taught me attention to detail and budgeting that I use daily in my work.

Even during college, I baked wedding cakes with my mom on weekends, learning how to exceed client expectations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but that’s what makes the reward so much sweeter. Building a successful interior design business came with a few challenges. Finding reliable vendors was a significant hurdle—discovering which suppliers consistently delivered quality products on time took some trial and error. Those vendor relationships I’ve carefully cultivated are now invaluable partnerships and the backbone of my business.

Learning to navigate manufacturer delays without disappointing clients required developing contingency plans and transparent communication skills. Building trust with fabricators and installers took persistence, but now having that trusted network means my projects run more efficiently.

Growing my portfolio to attract high-end clientele required patience and strategic networking. Each completed project became a stepping stone to more sophisticated work. These experiences shaped me into a better designer and business owner. Now when I walk through a beautifully finished space with a delighted client, I truly appreciate the journey that brought us here.

As you know, we’re big fans of Michelle Jett Decorating Den Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in creating timeless, transitional designs that evolve beautifully through seasons and trends. My approach goes beyond decorating—I transform entire homes into cohesive spaces that truly reflect who my clients are.

As a full-service design firm, I offer everything from space planning to accessories, creating elegant, livable spaces that balance classic elements with contemporary touches.

What my clients love most is my convenient in-home process. Instead of dragging you to showrooms, I bring carefully curated selections directly to you. This not only saves time but ensures everything works perfectly in your actual space.

I’m particularly proud of my client relationships. I listen first, then enhance your vision with my expertise. For my busy, affluent clients, this means getting magazine-worthy results without the typical stress of design projects—just beautiful spaces that feel uniquely yours.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest first and foremost is seeing the achievements of my three children and the strong, successful young adults they’ve become. Watching them grow into their own lives with confidence and purpose brings me a joy that’s impossible to match. Nothing compares to the pride I feel seeing them navigate their worlds with the values and strength we’ve tried to instill.

In my career, I find genuine happiness in those ‘aha moments’ when a design comes together perfectly—when a room transforms from separate elements into a harmonious space. I love seeing my clients’ reactions during that first walkthrough of their newly designed home. Their faces lighting up as they move from room to room is incredibly rewarding.

The creative process itself brings me daily joy—hunting for perfect pieces, discovering unexpected color combinations, and solving design challenges keeps me passionate about my work. But knowing I’ve created spaces where families will make memories for years to come—that lasting impact is what truly fulfills me professionally.
