Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Bouse.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a NJ girl who fell in love & moved to CA. I went to make-up school in 2000 and began working as a studio make-up artist. I quickly became a celebrity make-up artist specializing in natural beauty in TV, while teaching at the Make-up Designory (MUD) in Burbank as an instructor.
In 2005, I received my esthetics license and became certified in lash extensions. I was recruited by a large beauty corporation and started traveling across the country and internationally as a Global Lash Artist (I trained instructors). My lash business continued to grow to include working on celebrities in major motion pictures & film.
I started my aromatherapy certification in 2014 and love incorporating it into my beauty & skincare business. I am on the advisory board for the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and MUD. I have been featured on TV commercials as a beauty expert, judged teen pageants, traveled to present & teach on TV, large trade shows and special events/retreats.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Launching a small business can be challenging. I was very grateful for referrals and local organizations I had access to for finding new clients. In my business referrals are the key to continued growth and stability.
When you do a good job, people thank you. When you make people feel better they refer you!
Michelle Bouse’s Beauty Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a small boutique salon/spa that feels more like sitting & chatting in a friend’s living room. We specialize in curly hair, lash extensions, brows & aromatherapy facials.
We are nestled near Warner Brothers Studios & Universal Studios, so entertainment professionals (both in front of and behind the camera) find our location convenient and private. Celebrities can get some quiet time away from the set, whether at our cottage or by appointment at their home or on location.
Our online booking schedule allows for ease of appointment scheduling and reminders, but mainly we are by appointment only.
We are also proud of the charity & volunteer work with have continued to do throughout the years. We strongly believe in giving back & supporting our community.
Our motto is everyone should leave feeling better for having stepped through our doors! Everyone is unique and requires a custom beauty treatment JUST for THEM, no two clients are the same. It’s our job to bring out the beauty of each of our clients.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success. I measure success on how my client feels when they leave, I know they are happy when they come back (and referral a friend). Most of our business has been referral based. I feel the best compliment you can receive, is a referral from a happy, loyal client.
At the end of the day, I want to feel I made a difference in people’s lives and come to my shop because we make them look good and they always feel better. Because true beauty comes from within.
