Meet Michele Bohbot of Namastday Yoga in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Bohbot.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michele. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
“I want to create a place where people can find more of themselves.”

As a mother of seven, as a creative designer, and as a certified Iyengar yoga teacher, I wanted to create a safe environment for people to practice and expand themselves in many ways- physically, mentally and spiritually.

Opening a yoga center was always a dream of mine. After twenty-five years, my practice has matured to a place where my dream has become a reality. The call came from a deep place of joy and serenity. I am grateful that I am now in the position to give back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Obstacles are everywhere, especially when we have good intentions.

The strength of the mind is what kept me going through my life. Working on yourself and finding your mission is the beginning and the foundation of our own existence. This is where we need to start so yoga start now. I discovered 15 years ago the method of Iyengar Yoga which is focused on alignments, sequencing and timing of the poses. I was attracted to it because it is an intelligent yoga and B.K.S. Iyengar author of multiple renowned books such as: Life on Yoga, Light on Life, etc. gave us knowledge and inspiration to heal and improve our overall health through practice.

My challenge is to spread his teachings and to grow the yoga community. As a teacher, I challenge myself by always positioning myself as a student and continue to attend all yoga conferences and workshops all over the world. The learning process never ends and it is what stimulates me. As an entrepreneur woman, I consider my yoga center as a passion and not a business. Yoga helps me balance my life and I would say that helping people keep me balance and centered.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Namastday Yoga Center is where self-care begins. We offer 2 studios fully equipped with props from its original source Pune, India. and a unique rope wall. We offer classes from advanced level to the raw beginner.

Namastday offers different style yoga classes such as: Iyengar, Ashtanga, Restorative, Gentle Yoga, Yoga for MS and other movement disorders, etc… We are known for bringing renowned International senior teachers in the Los Angeles yoga community.

Namastday is dedicated to inspire each of our students to seriously practice asanas with burning desire and consistency, Philosophy, and education on health are part of our curriculum.

At Namastday we realize that yoga is an emotional subject. None of us need to be alone. Our loving community is here to accompany you in having the best experience you’ve ever had in a yoga class!

“Yoga is an endless journey into the unknown and unexpected, where you find yourself feeling different, and yet oddly, perfectly balanced.” – B.K.S. Iyengar

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Fes, Morocco and grew up in Paris. I graduated from La Sorbonne University in Paris. I wanted to become a lawyer and write books on Philosophy. I got married to my lovely husband Marc, in Paris. It was Marc who introduced me to the garment industry. After a few years of marriage, we owned a few retail stores and I became the buyer of them all.

I guess the colors of Morocco inspired me more to become a designer…

I moved from Paris to Los Angeles in 1987 with 3 children. English was a language barrier for me, including the culture. In 1989, I decided that I wanted to express my creativity through fashion. The Californian women inspired me with their beautiful allure and I wanted to dress them with elegance and femininity. I named my fashion brand Bisou Bisou, which means kiss in French. I wanted every woman to own a piece of love, and romance into their closet. Bisou Bisou became a big success being sold in upscale department and retail stores nationwide and internationally. My husband, Marc, joined me and helped me grow the business.

I started practicing yoga in 1992 as a way to balance my life. As a mother of 5 children at this time and fashion designer I was looking for something that will help me find peace and organization. It was after my first private yoga class with Kathrine Weedling that I realized I was practicing yoga when I was a child without knowing it. I remembered always hiding myself in a quiet place under my bed and would stay there for hours and meditate. I was really into gymnastics and dance. Since this day yoga became my lifestyle, I can say today that I live yoga.

My passion is to dress women and also helping them finding themselves through yoga and self-realization. Today, I live in Los Angeles with my 7 kids, and many grandchildren.

In Fall 2015, we opened the door to Namastday Yoga Center.
