Meet Michal Cohen of Michal Makeup

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michal Cohen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michal. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I’ve been doing makeup since I was 16, after receiving my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida. I went to FIT in NYC for my AA in Fashion Merchandising and Management and began working for cosmetic companies. I moved to LA three years later and began working in Cosmetic manufacturing and packaging.

With the turn of the economy in 2008, I lost my job and decided to start freelancing as a makeup artist. It was a slow start, but steadily I worked for over ten years. Recently, I decided to add additional tools to my belt and began studying Permanent Makeup. I have taken on Microblading, Scalp Micropigmentation as well as Tattoo Removal.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To achieve success, it is a long climb… If it weren’t, there is no way I’d be where I am today. I believe that all the blood sweat and tears that I’ve put into makeup artistry has made me the artist that I am today.

From speaking with clients to promoting my business and marketing myself, I would not have been able to do any of this and grow into a new part of my community had I not struggled at first and learned to step out of my comfort zone.

Michal Makeup – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in makeup artistry with the addition of lash lifting, eyebrow Microblading, scalp micropigmentation, and tattoo removal.

I’m most proud of being able to hear my client and really listen to their needs… There are plenty of artists out there that are focused on numbers and getting clients in and out as fast as possible.

But I truly believe that if you want to be successful and really make a difference in someone’s life, you have to listen to what it is they are trying to achieve. And while that may take more time and effort, a client will feel more confident in the result that you are going to give them.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is a healthy balance of my career, personal life, and personal goals. If I’m finding that I’m steadily growing in all areas while working to achieve my own goals, then I’ve found success.
