Meet Michael Sasser of Sasser Stills Boudoir in Marina Del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Sasser.

Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve photographed it all. Weddings, high school senior portraits, headshots, Wedding videos, music videos and I even got my first paid gig photographing children’s sports. The rush of making money doing something that seemed like just a hobby. You guys know what I’m talking about. Fast forward 7 years and I’m asked to by a friend to take sexy pictures of her for her boyfriend. I thought “This is great. An extra paycheck for an easy shoot. I’ll add this to what I offer as well.” I felt that way until hearing woman after woman be so hard on themselves, expecting to hate their pictures because they didn’t feel pretty or didn’t like their arms or hadn’t lost the weight they hoped. Boudoir became a passion of helping women love themselves for who they are and it is why boudoir is the only photography I still do.

Has it been a smooth road?
Most of what has happened in my career had fallen into my lap. Then I decided to move to LA. I didn’t know many people, there were so many other photographers and I didn’t have a client base to refer me. I had to rebuild my business from the ground up. I had to show this city that I had something special. It took a long time and not many people wanted to work together. I had to become a better photographer, give my clients a better experience, and as a result, I’m making a bigger impact on the lives of the women who hire me.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sasser Stills Boudoir – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a boudoir photographer. Boudoir to some people means sexy pictures as a gift to a significant other. Boudoir to me means loving yourself. Accepting your own beauty as beautiful. The belief that you are enough without photoshop. Women hire me because my work is honest. It shows the real you. When you argue with your friend about how they are the one who is always the prettiest or how they look great and you don’t, I want your boudoir experience to show you what your friends and significant other sees.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Los Angeles gives you the permission to be who you want to be. There is such diversity here that you can find someone you connect with no matter who you are. In some cities, there is pressure to fit into a stereotype. In LA, there are people from all over that you can’t fit them into a stereotype. I am a creative who loves the beach, loves working hard and playing hard, traveling and meeting people from all over.

I dislike the traffic. Nuff said.
