Meet Michael Perez of Forever Xclusive in Carson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Perez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up in Puerto Rico at a young age I moved back to my birth state of Arizona where I grew up Playing and participating in numerous sports; baseball, dance .soccer, cheer dance. As a teenager cheerleading and Dance became my passion. Growing up cheering in the all-star and high school industry taught me very important life lessons on dedication, commitment, and sacrifice. Once graduated from high school I became the director of a local start-up all-star cheerleading program at just age 17. After a few year, I decided to finish college which brought me to Los Angeles where I graduated from The fashion institute of design and merchandising with a degree in visual communications. After college, I decided that working for an employer was not my cup of tea and I needed to become my own boss. Forever Xclusive was the start of accessories and apparel e-commerce business dedicated to the dance and cheerleading industry. Meanwhile, I worked every summer for the very first cheerleading company called the national cheerleaders association. I started as one of the summer camp instructional staff and then eventually moved my way up to a head instructor where I was a part of their elite choreography team on the west coast. As a national and worlds ranked choreographer I became one of the most requested choreographers in the west coast. This has given me the opportunity to travel to different countries to work with athletes all over the world. I have since started my own choreography company operating under the same business name offering custom choreography and camps. Feeling the need to start my own cheerleading program in the LA area we sought out locations and ended up in the city of Carson. The love for this sport and the need to have a location where it is safe for our athletes was crucial and this is why we decided to open our all star cheerleading gym location this season.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a first time start up business there will always be struggles and due to my young age, it was hard to get not only the city to allow us to open for zoning purposes but also the commercial brokers are very hesitant to allow a business like ours into their buildings. A big struggle was getting out presence out in the local community, seeing that this type of business is more of a word of mouth try of marketing not being from this area we had to really win over the surrounding schools and families.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an all-star cheerleading and tumbling gym that cater to athletes 3 and up. we specialize in the instructional aid in tumbling from novice to elite levels. We are also a USASF all-star cheerleading member gym with 2 all-star teams currently competing. We are most proud of our customer service as well as our dedication to helping our athletes not only grow in this sport but to grow to be good human beings. What sets us apart for other gyms in the area is that we work with a nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged athletes be able to participate in the expensive sport. we also pride our selfs on an open door policy which makes the environment and the energy between our families calm and serene. we push our athletes to be the best that they can be to hopefully be able to take these skills and life lessons with them forever.

What were you like growing up?

I have always been a busy bee and an entrepreneur. Through grade school, i would get in trouble for selling handmade brackets or things that I made to my classmates. I have always been street smart and understood that the harder you worked the more success you would have financially.
