Meet Michael O’Brien of O’Brien Magic Entertainment in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael O’Brien.

Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been performing magic as a hobby most of my life. As it would turn out, I began working at the famous “Main Street Magic Shoppe” in Disneyland. There I really developed my skills and fine-tuned my performance. After working there for a year, I decided to start pursuing magic as more than just a hobby. Eight Years later, I am one of the several full time working magicians in the Los Angeles area and have even become a member of the prestigious “Academy of Magical Arts, Inc.” at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood! Magic is more than just my job however, it is something that I put so much sweat, tears, and love into. My wife supports my passion 100% and my clients are happy to have me as a guest at their events!

Has it been a smooth road?
Like any small business, it is not so smooth sailing at first. The scariest part about being your own company is that if you are not booking shows, you are not getting paid. I have to constantly market myself and make sure to keep busy so that even during the slow season I know I will be able to work!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
O’Brien Magic Entertainment provides entertainment for all types of events from private parties, to company events, to restaurants, and more! The main form of entertainment I provide is what is known as “Close-up Magic.” This is magic that happens right before your eyes, and in many cases even in the palm of your own hands. This is what I love most about working with close-up magic. It creates a very intimate atmosphere as the groups I perform for are usually much smaller and right up close and personal to the show!

Aside from providing entertainment for my clients’ events, my company also publishes material for people who want to become magicians themselves. From books to DVDs to magic props and accessories, there is plenty to learn for everyone. From people wanting to learn magic as a hobby all the way to professional workers looking to add something special to their routines! Everyone will find something useful in my online magic shop!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Hollywood is the entertainment capital of the world! I do not think there is any place better to be a professional magician. Not only are my clients always looking for the hottest entertainment, but I also get the opportunity to work with so many other talented performers as well! Some of the best friends I have ever had are fellow performers and entertainers!
