Meet Michael Morrisette of The Strand House in Manhattan Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Morrisette.

Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been in the hospitality business for over 30 years. My father started a restaurant when I was 6 years old and I loved to spend time there because it was a place where everyone came together and shared food and conversation.

After I finished High School, I found myself in a restaurant management position in Scottsdale, Arizona at a very young age which solidified my direction in the hospitality business. One of my most notable positions was working with the Top 10 Chef from Food and Wine at Les Auteurs in Detroit, MI. I eventually moved back to the West Coast and managed Melisse Restaurant in Santa Monica, California.

I now am fortunate to run Manhattan Beach’s famed oceanfront restaurant, The Strand House.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every restaurant that I worked with had its own set of challenges, but I have always been fortunate to work with great teams. Together we came up with creative solutions to overcome all obstacles and in the long run made each restaurant better. All of the restaurants that I have worked with were special in their own way and helped me prepare for my next opportunity.

Please tell us about The Strand House.
The Strand House is a sophisticated yet comfortable family-owned restaurant conceived by a small group of South Bay families out of their love for great food, wine and friends.

In 2011, The Strand House opened its doors, leading the culinary revolution of Manhattan Beach. With 180° sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, world travelers and locals alike may come for the view, but stay for Chef  Greg Hozinsky’s and Executive Chef Austin Cobb’s award-winning Coastal California Cuisine.

The Strand House offers a five-star experience with the warmth and hospitality you would expect from a beach town, where each guest is treated like family.

I am the General Manager / Partner here and manage a staff of over 130 people. I feel I am known for my warm hospitality and bringing out the best in our staff to create memorable experiences for our guests.
