Hi Micah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Before I became a doctor, I was actually a patient. I am a patient who suffers from arthritis and thats what inspired me to become a rheumatologist. A rheumatologist is a doctor who specializes in arthritis and many autoimmune diseases. However, along my journey to becoming a doctor, I found ways to heal myself holistically and thats what inspired me and my wife(also a physician) to open our private practice in Newport Beach. Our clinic is called Dr. Lifestyle and we specialize in lifestyle and integrative medicine.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to opening our private practice was not smooth. We have been on social media for two years now and we have had our own personal health struggles. Even to this day, we are continually learning and improving our knowledge to help our patients and ourselves. No one tells you how to do private practice when you finish medical training. We have had to figure out how to get our practice known as it comes from such a unique perspective.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our clinic is called Dr. Lifestyle. We specialize in Integrative/Lifestyle medicine as well as Rheumatology. My wife, Dr. Melissa Mondala does Primary Care and I do Rheumatology. We spend extra time with our patients(1 hour) in order to give comprehensive care. What sets us apart from other practices is that practice integrative/lifestyle medicine and spend a lot of extra time with our patients. We do not take insurance and patients know exactly what they are paying when they see us. Dr. Mondala does direct primary care so her model is subscription-based and patients sometimes see her multiple times a month while paying one monthly rate. In addition, there are multiple services that are included in her monthly rate. We are most proud of the fact that our practice is very intimate and our patients become our friends and family. In addition, we use lifestyle and integrative medicine to help our patients. Some of our patients have been able to get off medications using our integrative approach. Some of have lost over 50 pounds and been able to get off of their hypertension and blood pressure medications. Our practice focuses on using minimal medications while optimizing our body’s ability to heal.
