Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Mugavero.
Mia Mugavero AKA “MIA MUGS” is 16 years old. She moved from Carol Stream, IL to Los Angeles at the age of 12, with her mom. As her dad and brother gave their love and full support, they continued to stay back in Illinois. As hard as it was for her family and her to be spilt, they believed in Mia. They wanted to see her pursue her passions and dreams of being a professional dancer and actress.
Mia has been dancing and performing since the age of three. She was trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary. Mia ended competing at the age of 12, winning numerous awards and national titles.
As she was fulfilled in the competition circuit. She then enrolled to take pointe for a whole year. She would train 30 hours a week. Her ballet mentors wanted Mia to be a ballerina. Mia felt in her heart this is not what she wanted to do. She would come home every night from ballet and pointe training, get right in her dance room, and put on hip hop YouTube videos.
Mia now truly felt she found her passion and love for hip hop. As this was something completely new and never trained in. She sought out for master classes in Chicago and still was learning some of the most viral LA dance class videos off YouTube. Mia’s ultimate dream came true when she was chosen to dance with Justin Bieber on the Purpose Tour.
Mia tried out for IMMABEAST that summer and made the IMMA family founded by Will “Willdabeast” Adams & Janelle Ginestra. She also landed her audition for representation for a talent agency with Clear Talent Agency.
As her parents believed in her so much. They wanted to give her the opportunity & chance to be in the industry in LA. As Mia continues to train and work hard. Mia had the amazing opportunity to be on NBC World of Dance Season 3. She has worked on Disney’s Ravens Home and Disney’s Zombies. She has worked and created content for: Awesomeness TV, PUMA, Maybelline, Black Pyramid, AAPE and many record labels & artists. She has danced & performed for: Justin Bieber, Chaka Khan, Pointer Sisters, TED TALKS, BET Experience, & WOD championships. Mia has been featured in music videos for DJ Alesso & Betty Who.
She is currently working & assisting many top choreographers in the industry. Consistently training is key for her & what she strongly believes in.
Which has led her to teaching workshops & classes nationally. She will soon teach her first international classes in the Dominican Republic.
Mia wants to inspire others all over the world to pursue their passions and dreams. Never give up and to keep pushing through any obstacles that you may face. Always remember to “MeanMug” any negativity that comes your way.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We all have different struggles and obstacles in life.
In order to support my dreams and career, my family and I have been living apart for three years. Yes, it’s a major sacrifice, having to co-parent two children in two different cities apart, but they believed in me so much that they refused to let anything, even their comfort, get in the way of my dreams.
There have been times when it’s been extremely tough emotionally. I miss having my entire family altogether under one roof. I miss coming home to my dad and brother or when I’m working or performing not be able to see them there. While I’m grateful to chat with them on FaceTime sometimes, it just makes me miss them even more.
We do have group chats and get to see each other about every three months. We’re such a close family & support each other’s dreams and goals. So the distance is tough, but I know it’s a temporary, though necessary sacrifice. I am, however, grateful to have a family that supports me and believes in me the way my family does. It motivates me that much more to work hard so that their sacrifice is not taken advantage of.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know if I believe in luck at all. It has been a lot of hard-work, determination & persistence to where I have gotten today. Also, the love and support from my entire family.
I have a strong faith in God. I believe that God has a plan for you. I believe that you can never have another person’s blessing and what meant for you will come. I support others in the process and are genuinely happy for those who receive their blessings. Sometimes we don’t always know why things happen but there’s always a reason. You have to watch for God’s signs and plan. He’s guiding you. He is leading you. You just have to be aware and know that he is always there.
