Meet Mia Garcia of Justmkg in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Garcia.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in San Diego, California with a musical family and quickly fell into playing guitar. My older brothers argentine bandmates would teach me bossa nova and funk and I became infatuated with these sounds. I went on to play in several bands and compose my own music with traveling.

I attended Spain’s Berklee College of Music last year while lightly touring and writing for the album and am currently attending USC in LA. I am releasing a collaborative project near September and will be working on two new albums following that debut release. I am also the guitarist for various artists and produce/write/compose my own music.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has sometimes been challenging being a female in a mainly male-dominated industry. It feels as though I do have to prove myself at times more than my colleagues. But at the same time, I have been lucky to work with so many open-minded females in the music industry who have helped me own my energy and move forward with confidence.

Please tell us about Justmkg.
I am a musician and creative all across the board. I love writing songs and telling stories that have the capability of healing those who absorb the sonic influence. Music has such a profound way of healing and If someone can relate or feel better after hearing something I’ve created then I know my goal has been achieved.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I feel that I am still really young in my career and wouldn’t change anything. As long as I move forward with positive intentions and use honesty, I feel that I can grow and flourish in my craft.
