Meet Meredith Carlson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Carlson.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My name is Meredith. I started shooting almost 20 years ago with an old manual film camera and a tiny darkroom where I developed black and white prints with my own two hands. This tactile education provided me with the tools that have made me the shooter I am today. I have lived and worked in Chicago, New York, and now, LA. Art connects us to ourselves and to other people. it is my passion to visually transmit the experience in front of me.

Please tell us about your art.
I love taking photos of musicians, dancers, bands– in short– music and nightlife. I love capturing the energy that live music produces– there’s a type of synchronicity that happens when everyone in the room, venue, stadium, etc are rooted in the performance and excited about what’s going on, on stage.

Rolling Stone covers were my first inspiration– photographers like Mark Seliger, Timothy White, and of course, Annie Leibovitz. When I shoot, I strive to capture and communicate an emotion or feeling– I try to create images with emotional resonance.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Put yourself out there, say yes, explore yourself, who you are and what you’re into and put your goddamn cell phone down. Go do something that you like and see who else is there, who else is interested in the same things.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My websites and Instagram. DM me for prints.
