Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronika Sorrow.
Veronika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ahoy! So in 2001, I opened up an eBay store called “MEOWMEOWZ!” but always dreamed of opening a brick and mortar shop, since all the cool punk/goth thrift shops I grew up with in the 80s were quickly dying out. So, 8 years later, I made it a reality in beautiful Pasadena, California.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Due to a shifty property owner and suicidal land lard in early 2010, I was forced to find a new home for MEOWMEOWZ! and move the entire store across town (first to storage, then to 2423 E. Colorado Blvd. in late 2010). The first two years were horrible… nightmare neighbor calling police on any customer that walked past her house (not kidding), had cops break up the party on our grand opening. Relentless mentally ill stalkers… it took everything in me to not just close up. But I said (through tears) “F*** you. This is MY dream, my store…” and weathered the storm. It’s now 2018 and I can’t wait to be here every day. We’ve made it this far and hope to be around for many more years to come.

MEOWMEOWZ! Retro 80s Thrift Shop specializes in new and vintage Rock n’ Roll clothing, punk footwear and accessories for people. We have a wide selection of hard to find new and used band t-shirts, leather and vegan gear, vinyl records, hair dye, jewelry. We also offer consignment! Every weekend we showcase live young local talent on our stage; welcoming our all ages community to enjoy live music in a unique, safe and sober environment.

MeowMeowz has been run entirely by two soles since day one: Veronika and Sal. Veronika owns the joint and Sal is her right-hand man helping keep the shop in order and customers happy.
