Meet Meosha Davis of The Affluent Agency in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meosha Davis.

Meosha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My career began in journalism in 2004. I interned under Wendy Wheaton. Instead of having me get coffee and run errands, Wendy had me on the BET Awards Red Carpet as my first assignment. From that moment, I networked and grew my industry connections. I covered every Red Carpet from BET, MTV, Grammy’s, movie premiers, and junkets. From Wendy, I went on to work for AllHipHop.com. While there, I was able to build a rapport with music industry insiders and artist that would aid me later in my career. I conducted interviews on video shoots and in the studios with artist. I’ve had various jobs in the industry from creative director, styling, event planning, and publicity.

While working as a creative director for a magazine, I was responsible for breaking a lot of artist/actors before they went “mainstream”. Tyga credits me for giving him his first magazine cover ever. I have always felt I was blessed with the gift of foresight. That gift helped me navigate the world of public relations. I started The Affluent Agency in 2012, and most of my success was due to all of the relationships I built from early on in my career. I was featured in Fox News, produced some amazing events with one being on national television. I’ve had 3 Super Bowl winning clients, as well as an Emmy nominated client. I always say this key to success in this business is who you know, and who knows you! After working in every aspect of entertainment possible, I have gone back to my roots of writing, Anky Cyriaque took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of the film world. I’m excited about my new journey as a writer, producer, and director.

Has it been a smooth road?
There is nothing smooth about the road towards success. You go through various emotions from questioning yourself, wanting to quit, going crazy, depression, losing friends, significant others, money, and the most hurtful thing is the lack of support from your family. Despite all of that you can never stop. Your struggle becomes apart of your testimony. I struggled with depression due to the circumstances of being an entrepreneur. Multiple highs and lows. Some months the money would be great, then there would be dry spots where I had no form of income coming in. Also having to move back home felt as if I was going backward instead of forward. I had car issues, and at one point I had no car (this was before the uber boom).

Yet by the grace of God people were placed in my life who believed in me and helped me get to every meeting, and every event. Starting my company I struggled to get clients in the beginning because I was competing with multi-billion dollar agency’s. So I worked for free to prove my worth and value. It was a gift and a curse because although it allowed me to be in the same spaces as the competition and now I can pull favors. The downside was most of my clients would leave me and go on to sign with known agencies once my work got them noticed. A wise woman once told me to never forget it was your talent and work that made them even take notice, and that is something no one can ever take away from you.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Affluent Agency story. Tell us more about the business.
I started my company after being fired from another. I had built that company to the point that everyone assumed it was mine. So I figured why not start my own? The Affluent Agency prides itself on giving every client the A-List treatment no matter what level they begin on. We offer various services in every aspect of entertainment from fashion, sports, and film. Event Production, Red Carpet events, Football Camps, Celebrity Outreach, Endorsements, and Product Placement are a few services we offer.

We are most known for our work with NFL and NBA clients. Our biggest accomplishment was an event we produced for the Lupus Foundation being aired on national television. The Affluent Agency also had (3) Super Bowl-winning clients, and an Emmy nominated client. I’m proud that this company was started by a woman, with no financial support, but pulled itself to the ranks with companies that have been around for centuries. The Affluent Agency company prides itself of working hands-on with every client so they feel more like family and less of a paycheck.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see this industry shifting to more women being in power and in powerful potions. I see my company branching off into a production company and producing the top films and television shows. It is the time of the creatives and those with fresh ideas to take over.
