Meet Melody DeSwarte of Melody Events in Anaheim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody DeSwarte.

Melody, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was Katherine Heigal in 27 Dresses, “Always a bridesmaid and never a bride”. I guess I can say it started before that because I’ve always loved planning parties and I would always make sure all the details were perfect. By time all my friends started getting engaged, I was a pro at planning everyone’s engagement party, bridal shower, and then baby showers. I’m pretty sure a few of my friends asked me to be their Maid of Honor just so I was the one planning everything. I eventually graduated to planning weddings and fast forward to 2014 when I had my son and knew I wasn’t going back to my desk job, I couldn’t think of anything else I’d rather do full time. So here I am, a wedding planner and loving it more than I can express.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A Wedding Coordinator is a huge industry and there are so many amazing people in this industry. Which can definitely be a challenge. There are times when I wanted to give up because the industry is just so big and getting clients wasn’t always easy but I kept at it and didn’t give up, then before I knew it I was becoming more and more successful in the industry.

Raising a son and being a wife full time also caused some challenges. I had a hard time being away from my family on nights and weekends but most couples work so you have to meet in the evenings and mostly all weddings are on the weekends, I definitely second guessed myself a few times. Overall, I’m beyond happy I stuck with it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Melody Events – what should we know?
Melody Events is a Wedding Planning and Coordination company. I help couples plan their dream wedding from every little detail to just coming in on the big day and helping them execute all the details they planned themselves. I specialize in Full Wedding planning. I love being able to sit down with a couple and help them find the details they may have missed. A lot of couples come to me with no clue where to start or which vendors to contact. I help them sort it all out and get organized so it’s less stress on them. I’m not only organized when it comes to wedding details, I’m also very passionate about what I’m doing because I truly LOVE being a wedding planner and that definitely shows through in my work.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I can be a little to cheerful when it comes to the whole wedding process but that’s only because this is my true passion. On mornings when I have a wedding, I naturally wakeup smiling and singing “Going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married….” I just can’t help but be overwhelmed with happiness. I know this shines through in my work which helps my overall success.
