Meet Melody Chen of Enchanting Song Flower in Miracle Mile

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Chen.

Melody, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Shanghai China and then migrated to the United States. I consider myself a product of East West cultures. I have lived in Philadelphia and Seattle prior to Southern California. Mesmerized by its free-spirited oceanfronts and sunshine, I decided to move to Los Angeles in Summer 2015.

Two months after the move, I started working as a Project Accountant in a big non-profit organization that provides staffing, HR, Payroll, Accounting and Contract Management support for private, state and federal funded projects. While I took pride in my work, I was in fact exhausted physically and mentally for having to manage 30 projects at once. I found myself ridden with anxieties and panic attacks. This catalyzed my inward journey and self-healing transformation.

I quit my full-time job to pursue my soul’s purpose in 2018. I did not know where to begin from there, but I knew that I needed to take care of myself in all aspects. I started to research on how to cope with anxieties holistically, and I found my teacher’s performance on Youtube and fell in love with the sound of crystal singing bowls. My spirit was uplifted and I noticed my anxiety subsided. I took a workshop from her and started the sound healing journey. In order to deepen my understanding in sound, I continued to study at the Academy of Sound Healing.

One thing led to another, I went on a seek for spiritual mentorship from life coaches. I started to grow interest in energy healing. Aside from the anxiety, I was struggling with food allergies and physical symptoms of leaky gut. Out of curiosity, I signed myself up in level one Reiki class and could not stop from there as I received profound emotional healing. I am now a master’s level in Reiki. I consider myself blessed because I have met many mentors and great friends on my path who are generous to share their resources and gifts with me. These connections brought me to new opportunities.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I cannot say that it has been a smooth ride because I had to break the habit of being my old self. This means that I have to trust the process and do the self-work without needing to know that lies in the future. It allowed me to stay present with myself. Often times, fear and self-doubt will chime in to test my faith on this path of living the purpose. Each breakthrough brought me to a new height and the understanding of being patient. I learned that the sacrifice I made to self-refinement always leads to new personal growth and expansions. All of the struggles became my best teachers, and I am grateful for them. So I would say, gratitude and patience really helped me overcome the mental obstacles and opened me up to new abundances. I am a firm believer of foundational work, it is fundamental to have a solid structure. It also helps to build confidence and knowledge.

Please tell us about Enchanting Song Flower.
The modalities that I incorporate in my practice are sound and reiki. I enjoy being creative, so I turned my detached garage into a healing sanctuary which allows me to do group soundbath and one on one sessions in my home base. My practice is tailored to anyone who needs a quick vibrational boost (crystal singing bowls) or a full on healing session. I also provide spiritual and emotional support for those who desire to deepen the connection to the self.

My desire for love and unity inspired me to birth a passion project called the Inner Harmony Lodge. It is a virtual space where people get to come together for self-care and healing. It is a 90-min session that runs on every other Sunday night. The lodge consists of group vocal toning and teachings of the chakra system. To wrap up the lodge, I give a mini soundbath to set a peaceful tone for the new week. I made a commitment to donate 30% of the proceeds from this project to the Loveland Foundation. I can’t say this will set me apart from others. But, it’s just lovely to motivate others to do self-care for a good cause and I believe in reciprocation of the energy. I’d say: “Heal thyself, heal the world!”

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I feel everything that had happened to me meant to happen this way, it is how I learn and grow. Every road I took was what I needed at the moment, and I honor the detours. I would not have done it differently had I start all over again. I truly enjoy the process of obtaining grace and flow in divine timing, I think of it as the art of living!
