Meet Melissa Paramo of Paramo Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Paramo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a mother of 4 with a busy personal life and an amazing career that feeds my soul. Aside from being a busy wife and mother, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Long Beach and I specialize in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. I have been in the field for nearly 20 years and have specialized training in couples therapy and now Psychedelic Assisted Therapy which has become more popular over the past few years. I received certification a couple of years ago and am eager and excited to see the growth and healing that this therapy offers.
I feel so blessed to be in a career that I absolutely love especially because I feel like this type of work was not in my plans when I was in college. I feel like it fell on my lap and it truly feeds my soul in every way and I know this is what I am meant to do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The challenges that I faced were not detrimental by any means; they were more in just feeling lost and not knowing where to go. I did struggle with my focus and concentration because I did have untreated and undiagnosed ADHD until adulthood, so studying and testing was more difficult for me. I always wondered if advanced schooling was for me because it was more difficult for me to grasp concepts and remember. I quickly learned that focus and concentrating was much easier when concepts and schooling was in subject matter that actually interested me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Paramo Therapy ?
Paramo Therapy is a private practice that specializes in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy in addition to couples therapy and a myriad of other specialties. I have been in the field for almost 20 years and have a background in a diverse types of settings which provide real-life experience that I can utilize to help and support others.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I have childhood memories of being surrounded by so many family and cousins. Being social was ingrained in me at a young age. As I got more established in my career I quickly came to the realization that we are hardwired to be around and lean in on our interpersonal relationships, whether that be family, like I had or friends who were seen like family. My greatest memories are holidays with all of my family and the homes we would gather at would be filled with love and laughter.
