Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Haloossim.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I earned my master’s in nursing/Nurse Practitioner from UCLA and started my nursing career working at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
I later trained in skin care and began working in private practice for a plastic surgeon and a dermatologist.
Shortly after, I was asked to help build and run one of the top skin care corporations in the country where I led a team of 8 nurses responsible for laser treatments, cosmetic injections, and LED lights. I was also able to bring in the latest technologies in aesthetic medicine and witness the rapid advancements in the industry.
After about 11 years, I wanted to leverage my experiences to build my own business: Skin Thesis. We aspire to achieve our client’s objectives by delivering the best in lasers, lights, injectables and other advanced skin treatments.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had a great experience working with clients, and learning to run a business prior to Skin Thesis. I feel it prepared me for my own venture. Starting your own business is nerve racking. You are taking so many different risks every day and putting yourself out there in ways you never imagined, emotionally and financially. But I believe in what we are doing, and we have been overwhelmed by the response. There is so much to juggle from the commitment to clients, keeping up with technology and changes in the industry, marketing, finances etc. But it also exciting and there is nothing better than feeling you are on the right track. Every day is a little victory!
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Skin Thesis story. Tell us more about the business.
We currently have our skin care clinic in West Hollywood. We deliver the latest in aesthetic medicine and offer lasers lights, injectables, and other skin advanced skin treatments to our clients. Our goal is to deliver the most natural look possible and guide clients to the best way to meet their objectives. Usually, this means working on things the client has been concerned about or uncomfortable with. It also means advising clients against certain procedures or treatments that are not in the best interest of our client or won’t achieve the desired results!
We are different in that we only focus on the skin and don’t want to be everything to everyone. We pride ourselves on procuring the best products and technologies and experience that create results rather than revenue. We want to build long-term, consultative relationships with our clients. And our staff is incredible. We hire experienced nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants who want to spend as much time as needed with the client to understand their goals and build a blueprint for the best course of action. Our people are incredibly well-trained injectors and intimately know the technologies at hand.
We are very proud of the brand we are building the loyal clients base we have attracted. We love the way our clinic has turned out and are excited about our innovative product line.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
My entire path has been affected by good and bad luck and good and bad experiences. My biggest entry point in skincare came from a long-time relationship and being at the right place at the right time. Most of my luck has come from people I have met that later played important roles in my life and my business. But
I do believe in the saying “the harder you work, the luckier you get.”
Struggles financially as a child motivated me to achieve as much as possible. It affected my views academically and my motivation to build my own business. I wanted to be self-sufficient and probably got a lot of my drive from the tougher times early on.
