Meet Melissa Brescia of Health Coaching with Mel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Brescia.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My health journey started ten years ago, working in the entertainment field in New York City. Too busy working 14 hour days, in a job I hated, to realize that I was sacrificing my health and my happiness for a career I didn’t want. I took no time to pause and check in with myself. I was running at full speed with no end in sight. Until one day my life came to a complete halt.

At a yearly DR exam, I was told I had high strained precancerous cells that could eventually turn into cancer and was recommend an invasive procedure that could affect my ability to have children one day. While I appreciated my doctor’s advice, I declined it, in my gut I knew that a procedure that could potentially hinder my ability to one day have children was not the procedure for me. I took the path less chosen (the one my prestigious NYC doctor laughed at) and chose food as my medicine.

I left the career in TV (packed up my jeep and drove out west) and began taking care of myself like a full-time job. I spent one year radically changing my life.

I studied and researched everything I could to heal my body an all natural way. Food became my medicine and my mantra. I ate real whole foods, I drank green juice, I practiced yoga, and I began to believe in my body. I trusted my body wouldn’t let me down and instead of worrying, I began to breathe. I trusted the process.

After one month of self-love, nourishing foods, and a positive mindset, I slowly began to heal. Through my journey, I learned that your fork is a powerful tool and what you chose to eat can heal or harm you. I learned how big of an impact the food we put into our bodies has on our lives, and I started to see food in a whole new light. I began to nourish my body on a deeper level. I learned that the body has the incredible ability to heal itself if given a chance.

I learned that love, nourishment, positivity, and self-care have the ability to radically change your life. After monthly visits to the doctor, I was told the precancerous cells were slowly disappearing. After one year of healing, I was told that those high strained precancerous cells had vanished. From that moment on I vowed to help others heal themselves.

Healing my body and embarking on my wellness journey ignited a passion in me to help others do the same. I’m passionate about what I do, and I am committed to helping my clients find true health and happiness.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes and no! The one thing that was smooth and clear as day was my passion. The minute I was able to heal my body by using nutrition and lifestyle changes, the biggest lightbulb went off in my head. I knew that I needed to share this knowledge with others, teaching them that you can heal and nourish yourself and live a life of wellness.

The challenging part was actually taking the leap to start my own coaching business.

For many many years, I only did my health coaching part-time. My first ever client was my neighbor in Brentwood. I didn’t even charge her! I was just excited that someone wanted my help in healing themselves holistically, and then I extended my services to co-workers and families.

Once I saw that my network of friends and family members were having great results with my help, I finally had the courage to make my health coaching a full-time gig.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Health Coaching with Mel story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a Certified Holistic Health Coach. Health coaches help you build healthy habits that align you with how you want to feel every day. A health coach is the best investment you can make in your self, and it lasts a lifetime.

As a coach I guide clients through the process of creating a vision for their health and well-being, developing a healthy mindset and healthy habits, and encouraging them every step of the way until they accomplish their goals.

Coaching is about having an accountability partner who will support and encourage you even when you feel ready to quit. I provide support and inspiration to continue moving forward, even if you are dealing with a health-related issue.

And a major bonus- I see all of my clients virtually! So if you have a phone, you can schedule an appointment! The majority of my clients FaceTime from the comfort of their own homes!

My Health Coaching Approach:

As an integrative health coach, I view health and wellness from a holistic perspective which means I’m interested in the whole person and what it means to thrive mentally, physically, spiritually. My approach to Health Coaching involves listening to, encouraging, supporting, and educating my clients, with my objective being to arm them with the knowledge, habits, and confidence to become completely self-sufficient on their unique wellness journey.

Could you Benefit from Working with Me?

Anyone who is looking to get healthier no matter what your wellness goals are, working with a health coach such as myself will give you the support and accountability you need to reach your goals. I help my clients focus on putting their own self-care at the front of their lives.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Hmm. This is a good question. I’m not really sure I believe in good or bad luck. I think it’s all a matter of perception. That day in the doctor’s office definitely was a day that felt like I had “bad” luck, but I then learned how to heal my body holistically, and through the process found my calling, which can definitely be seen as “good” luck.

I think everything is a matter of interpretation and perception. I would say to fellow entrepreneurs pay attention to the unlucky days, they always seem to be the place where most lessons are taught, which can always lead to something greater and more significant.
