Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Barba.
Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico and I became an adult with big responsibilities at age 14 when my father took me and my sister out of high school to work in his manufacturing bakery plant. By age 18, I was already a wife and the plant manager with over 50 employees. In 2008 the drug cartel situation in Chihuahua got really bad and my then husband and I decided to move to California for the safety of our newborn and our three years old. For the safety of our family. Eight months later after our move, I realized I was in a dead marriage where there was no spiritual, mental, emotional or physical connection. And as I was contemplating my life then one day I heard this voice that said: There’s something bigger, better out there and you have to go get it, you have to go find it”. So I took the leap and the things I had lined up didn’t turn out and at age 25, I ended up finding myself in a new country, with no husband, no family, no job, no money. Just me and my kids.
After years of struggle, I took a leap on a commission only job. I knew a commission sales job was my only chance for making it bigger however it came with a lot of uncertainty and financial instability. I remember how embarrassing it felt going to the grocery store. It would put all the things I needed in the cart and once I got to the cashier and they told me total with embarrassment I would say: Could you please put that back, and that and that, until I would make under my budget. And I remember one day when the day was finally done, I had tucked the kids in bed and I was exhausted. I went into a little corner in my bathroom, I sat on the cold floor in the dark, curled in a ball with my head in my hands, all I could do is cry and hope my kids wouldn’t hear me. I was exhausted with my struggle, I felt like a swimmer in the ocean gasping for air with every stroke and I couldn’t see the land. And I thought maybe I should just give up, this is too hard. And then the song “When you believe” by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston came on and it was as if God was speaking to me through the song;
“They don’t always happen when you ask,
And it’s easy to give in to your fears
But when you’re blinded by your pain
Can’t see the way, get through the rain
A small but still, resilient voice
Says, help is very near, oh (Oh)
There can be miracles (Miracles)
When you believe (Boy, when you believe, yeah)”
I would listen to this song over and over praying for a miracle.
As I was asking for these miracles, I came across an NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming class) and there I met someone that was already a graduate of the program offered to do an NLP Breakthrough and after that session, I went from depressed, crying and extreme anxiety to clarity and certainty that everything would be ok, I knew it in my bones. And I went from being overdrawn in my account to having my first $30,000 commission check. It was the miracle I prayed for. I now had evidence that If I could do it once, I could do it again.
I’ve developed practices that keep my mind, my body, my emotions aligned with my spiritual purpose which I call Awakening the Queen within which is why I have been able to thrive in my mortgages, marketing and business, write a book, become an author and a speaker and I still have time for my kids and myself. I became a Coach because people ask me all the time. How do you do it all? Reprogram your beliefs and create your life by design.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I faced a lot of financial obstacles and being able to balance life as a single mom and keeping myself as a priority as well.

I love the diversity in culture. I love the variety of things that you can do. You can literally find just about any type of food, culture, entertainment, jobs, industries, you name it.
What I like the least is that is a bit dirty and crowded in some areas.
