Meet Mekke’l Carter of Rose Gold Goddess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mekke’l Carter.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a multidimensional music artist & mogul that manifests limitless talent, drive, energy, and a fearless passion for music & art. My name means “Gift from God”. I sing, dance, rap, act, direct, model and even write & produce music for myself and other A-List artists. My sound demonstrates a stimulating fusion of Hip Hop, R&B, Pop Melodics, & Soulful Spirituality with an eclectic urban fashion style, striking dance moves, and global-ready songs. Sonically, my music resonates with compelling lyrics, lush harmonies & messages that speak to listeners of all ages and demographics. I also perform Guided Meditations, Sound Healing, educate people about metaphysics, crystals, herbal medicine, chakras, reiki energy, and all things spirituality!

I am originally from the Pro Football Hall Of Fame City of Canton, Ohio. I was born into a musical family, always surrounded by entertainment everywhere I went. At the age of 7, my two brothers Tyson & Braxton and I headed out to Los Angeles, California to pursue our careers in music and acting. Over the years, we were seen on national television in commercials for highly esteemed brands such as McDonald’s, Subway, PBS Kids, Little Tikes, Razor and many more! I grew up performing on nationwide tours with my uncles & legendary 90’s rap group “Bone Thugs N’ Harmony”.

My group “The Carter” received mentoring from Michael Jackson’s father Joe Jackson, who helped curate and develop us young siblings into the next generations “Jackson 5”. They filmed this process on Joe’s reality show until the unfortunate passing of The King Of Pop in 2009. Since I was a toddler, I’ve modeled for many different fashion brands including Tommy Hilfiger and French fashion designer, Christian Audigier who was known for his clothing lines “Ed Hardy” & “Von Dutch”. I was managed by Linda Henrie, momager of David Henrie & Selena Gomez in Disney’s “Wizards Of Waverly Place”, and worked on several projects for Disney and Nickelodeon. In 2008, my group recorded a song with Lil Chuckee of Young Money which received viral attention on World Star Hip-Hop, XXL, YoungMoney.com and other pop culture sites. We were noted for being gifted at such a young age.

Fast Forward to today, I am most recently mentored by 6x Grammy Award Winner Malik Yusef of Kanye West’s GOOD MUSIC. My songwriting career really took off in 2016 when I wrote a holiday hit for Kenny Latimore called “Real Love This Christmas” that hit TOP 5 on the Billboard charts. That then led me to attend the 2017 Grammy Awards with Malik for writing Beyonce’s powerful ballad “Sandcastles” and winning his most recent Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album with “Lemonade”. I am currently songwriting for Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Snoh Aalegra, Vic Mensa & many other highly esteemed artists on their upcoming albums.

I am probably best noted for my collaboration with the enigmatic Roc Nation artist Vic Mensa on his debut album “The Autobiography” where you can hear my additional vocals in the songs “Wings” with Pharrell Williams and “Down For Some Ignorance with Chief Keef and Joey Purp. I also wrote a hook and vocal produced for Snoh Aalegra on the record “XGAMES” and I feature on another track with SAINt JHN called “2HONEST” on Vic’s latest 2020 release “V TAPE”. I have worked closely with Executive Producer NO I.D., Pharrell Williams, Hit Boy, Wyclef Jean, Kelly Rowland, Ty Dolla $ign, Wiz Khalifa, Mike Dean, Young Guru, and many more. I also was blessed to be present for the creative process in the studio for the creation of Jay Z’s 4:44 Album during the time we were working on Vic’s album. That was definitely an unforgettable experience.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh, it definitely has been FAR from an easy road for me along my journey. There have been plenty of obstacles and struggles that I’ve been through my entire life. Everyone goes through ups and downs in life but hard work & perseverance always prevails. I’ve had to go through many hardships when it came to surviving in LA solo as I was grinding and pushing my music career on my own while my father was in prison. This also caused me to go through burdensome battles with my mental health along the way. This is one of the reasons why spirituality plays such a large role in my journey. I’ve been on a path of self-healing ever since.
