Meet Megan Sullivan of Elements of Moving in Thousand Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Sullivan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a certified move-a-holic. In the last decade, I have lived at 19 different addresses in six different states. Along the way, I have had A LOT of practice planning, packing, unpacking, organizing, building IKEA furniture and designing new spaces.

One of my biggest accomplishments was completely renovating a 1960’s fixer upper all from instructional YouTube videos and inspirations from Pinterest. The house sold within three days of being on the market.

Recently, I clipped my wings and purchased a home in sunny Southern California. I have now decided to get my moving fix by helping others streamline one of the most stressful life events and share all of my tips and tricks that I have learned over the years to help save you time, money and headaches.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I love a good challenge and I try to always keep a positive attitude when things don’t go exactly as planned. I remind myself that struggles and errors are the only way that we learn. Part of what I love the most about DIY is that it isn’t always about knowing how to do it right, but about learning how to fix your mistakes.

When I graduated from college with a degree in finance, it was right during the financial crisis where the job market was extremely unstable especially in the financial sector. I believe my ability to pivot and take every situation as an opportunity to grow has helped me to expand my mind and vision to now have a job that I didn’t even realize existed and maybe would have never found if everything went according to plan.

Elements of Moving – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Elements of Moving is a company that focuses on organizing and design. I help people find the right products and solutions to make their home unique and beautiful. Sometimes that includes rearranging, repurposing, buying something new or building something custom for their space.

I specialize in modifying IKEA items to make them look more expensive and geometric accent walls. I strive to really get to know my clients and create solutions that will not only long term bring them happiness but also try and be as cost-effective as possible. I have been in the customer service industry for over 20 years and I always strive to provide a Disney-like experience that the clients are surprised and delighted with the transformation.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My most recent big accomplishment was completely renovating a 1960’s fixer upper all from instructional YouTube videos and inspirations from Pinterest. The house sold within three days of being on the market!
