Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Shapiro.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for secondhand fashion started when I was 12 years old. I remember my cousin giving me a bag of hand-me-downs and I was so excited to see brands like Frankie B jeans and Juicy Couture. I asked her how she afforded to buy all of these nice things on a babysitting salary. She let me in on a little secret – consignment shopping. Fast forward a few years and it’s not such a secret anymore that secondhand clothing is the retail option of the future. I always knew I liked nice things but worked hard and wanted to make efficient use of my money. So I got into consignment shopping. I frequented the store for a few years as a customer before I asked for a job. I patiently waited and followed up, hoping to score my dream job. I interviewed in my Free People top from the store and got the job. I worked for the previous owner on and off for about six years. I made so many great relationships with customers and learned valuable knowledge about the fashion industry. I was promoted to General Manager and ran the store for about a year while the previous owner was on maternity leave. She came to me and let me know that she was thinking of selling the store and knew that I had the passion to own it. She told me she couldn’t think of a better person to hand it to. In September of 2021, I officially became the owner of Love at Second Sight. I am so excited to continue growing the brand and taking the store to the next level! Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To get to this point in my life was definitely not a smooth road. When I look at my path to this point, it is definitely not linear. I would tell anyone struggling to find their life’s passion to keep at it, try different things and really listen to your heart. If you had asked me three years ago if I would be a business owner at 30 I would have laughed. Well, here I am! Never give up on your dreams no matter the struggles to get there, Ask for help if you need it. It’s okay to rely on people who are giving support. It’s always a learning curve. No one is born knowing how to be a business owner. The struggles and how you handle them, are what make you who you are.

Love at Second Sight is a high-end consignment boutique. We specialize in buying and reselling women’s designer clothing, shoes and accessories. What sets us apart from others is two things. 1. We have a very knowledgeable buying team. I personally have been buying secondhand clothing for seven years now. We have our fingers on the pulse of what’s trending. I buy for a wide range of customers. I buy trendy crop tops for the seventeen years old as well as silk blouses for her mom who comes with her. There is something here for everyone to find. 2. I pride myself on having a staff that is invested in making the customer experience the best it can be. They are friendly and happy to be here.
