Meet Megan Prescott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Prescott.

Megan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started acting at the age of 15. I starred as ‘Katie Fitch’ on seasons three and four of the UK drama ‘Skins’ which later aired all over the world. I have been acting ever since Skins, but now I also write and create my own short films. I spent the last year living in LA, where my twin sister lives with her amazing rescue bulldog, Marge!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has NOT been a smooth road! I don’t think anyone with a smooth, easy ride in life ever becomes a writer because they wouldn’t have much to say! The inspiration for most of my writing and the characters I create comes from the countless experiences and failures I have experienced in my life; the awful jobs, the rejections, the times I didn’t know how I would make it out of the situation I was in – its all life experience. Though it didn’t feel beneficial (at all) at the time, it made me a better creator and a nicer person (I hope!) in the end.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
As an actress, writer and filmmaker, I write scripts, I act and am involved in every process from initial film concept to post-production in my own short films. I am probably known for my role in the UK drama ‘Skins’ which gained international notoriety and at a very young age, really taught me the inner workings of how a TV production actually works and what makes a great production flow smoothly.

I am most proud of the diversity of experiences I have had throughout my life. Most of these were a result of being an actress and writer in-between jobs and having to take up random part-time jobs, indulge my strange hobbies and struggle to survive, all because the idea of giving up and getting a ‘regular job’ just wasn’t an option for me. I’ve been a waitress, a nanny, a children’s entertainer, a cook, an intern, a bartender, a trainer, and for a long time was a professional bodybuilder!

What sets me apart from a lot of people is that I do not give up (even when perhaps I maybe should!) I have been in this industry for over a decade and for a long time, it seemed like it might not happen for me – others suggested I get a ‘real job’, ‘stop living a fantasy’ and ‘be realistic’. Lord knows why, but there is a stubborn little child inside of me that will absolutely not give up until I have achieved my goals.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There have been people throughout my life who have believed in me and supported me in times when few else did, and those people I owe everything to. It’s one thing to support someone who already has the ball rolling in their career, but some people -and they know who they are- believed in me when it really wasn’t obvious why they should have! I did not grow up in a happy home, and my confidence was extremely low as a result of some of my childhood experiences. Had it not been for some of the friends and peers that have supported me along the way, I would not be where I am today.

Megan, it’s so refreshing reading and watching your posts on YouTube and Instagram. I’ve been following your social media ever since I saw you in Skins. (I first saw it in December 2018…10 years later!).

I really hope it all works out for you! You’re incredibly talented and deserve to be seen doing your thing. I’ll definitely add VoyageLA to my list of publications to check out!

    All the best, Ms Prescott.

    Regards,

    Phil
