Meet Meg West of Events by M and M

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg West.

Meg, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Recent VHS footage reminded me that I coordinated my cousins wedding when I was 16 years old. At the time, I didn’t know wedding planning could be a career, but flash forward to today, I was excited to learn that this line of work has always been in my sights. With experience in everything from corporate office work and restaurant management to music representation, I was given insight into these very important vendors at a micro level. I was later approached by an LA Planner to begin assisting and coordinating events – I knew instantly that this was my calling. A few years later, I opened Events by M and M. The focus has always been the client. How can we best serve the client, keep costs down and fill their packages with ALL the necessary services? We listened to client needs, happily modifying packages until they were practically perfect. We are now a growing team of planners and assistants who work hard and have a blast doing it – as an Events by M and M client, your day will stay with us forever!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every business has their obstacles! Where, when and how much do I spend on marketing? How do you keep a vast amount of client information organized, current and easily accessible, while still finding time to sleep? Any new business owner will most likely forego sleep, but eventually – with the right systems, it gets better. You need a plan! We developed a custom database to organize client and vendor information so that we could request information in the most organized and convenient way possible for us and our clients. As planners, it is our responsibility to gather information, without overwhelming our clients. So while every client has different needs, having a structure of common protocols and procedures will keep everyone calm and on track in the long run. If you want to hear about the on-site, live action complications that can arise, we should grab a cup of coffee! =)

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Events by M and M – what should we know?
It’s important to us that our clients can rely on our professional structure, while still maintaining a relaxed communication and it’s our ultimate goal to provide that balance. So in short, we are an established company with a boutique vibe! We are most known for creating a professional and friendly atmosphere with clients and vendors alike. Most problem solving happens far in advance of the wedding itself and we are problem solving sleuths. We are also great listeners! Whether they realize it or not, our clients have a vision. Sometimes it comes in the form of a list of ‘likes’ and ‘don’t likes’ and you’d be surprised how informative these lists can be! Because of this, we have had the privilege of working with a wide assortment of client styles.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Listen… patiently! Sometimes formulating a concept, desire or concern for a big event is tricky. Hearing the right question is of the utmost importance. We truly love what we do and enjoy that our energy is one of the elements to your event. We believe this enriches the experience for us and our clients. Our resources are your resources – we have them in spades and are happy to share! We love that we can offer to our clients; knowledge, support, experience, resources, a listening ear and peace of mind!
