Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayya Bork.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
For me to draw means to do something that is very natural. When we are children, we are drawn to objects that leave marks. I just have been carrying this habit with me ever since. A very simple story, right? 🙂
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a visual artist with a broad spectrum of interests. I love to combine nature with art, and you can often see this motif in my works. There is a main topic though, animals, in everything I do.
When I use one media over and over, I get a feeling that I’m stuck. That’s why I go from live-sketching from sculptures (while at a museum) to creating large-scale paintings. Then I’m drawing illustrations for children’s books on my tablet. Between all those things I’m getting a Bachelor of Arts by studying Intercultural Relations, which I believe is very useful in a city such as Los Angeles, considering how diverse it is. Also, I’ve been always fond of interior decor. All the plates, figurines, textiles, furniture, and lamps are bringing me so much joy! I’m trying to find how I can apply this passion of mine and put my ability to create bright and lively spaces into work. I believe that your home should be something special, that has meaning for you. Another passion of mine is set design. I see it as a real playground, where you can let your imagination travel to unexpected places. I am simply happy when I create and believe that what is done in love is well done. I encourage you to step out of an old definition of an artist and explore what you are capable of. Create anything you feel like creating.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Artists have always been viewed as outsiders, which I prefer to see as a positive thing, rather than a negative because it gives you an exclusive perspective. I believe that you are never alone as long as you have your art. If anything, it is so fortunate that we live in times when your artistic possibilities are countless and connecting with other artists has never been easier. You can exchange with your thoughts and ideas with pretty much anyone who’s exposed to social media.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
