Meet Max Woods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Woods.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Max. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My interest in film started when I very young. When I was a kid in Northern California, I joined a community theater. I acted in a few plays, both classics and originals, before finding my way behind the scenes. Doing the lights, building the sets, I helped where ever I could.

Fast forward a few years to when I barely graduated high school and went off to community college. I got one semester into “real college” before realizing that I wasn’t a great fit. And I don’t mean with the people or the setting, I mean the format of sitting in a lecture hall being talked at for 3 hours+ didn’t work for me. That winter break, I found The Los Angeles Film school where I am currently enrolled.

I have been in LA for over a year now and am looking forward to what lies ahead. The people I’ve met here are so creative and so brilliant at their craft that they challenge me to try harder and work harder and to be better at what I do. And that’s all I could’ve hoped for, a group of friends that help each other to grow so that, hopefully, one day we can be the leaders of the industry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest obstacle I’ve faced so far has been finding my place. When I was in high school and community college, I had no idea where my path was leading. I was struggling with classes and assignments so much that, to be honest, the light at the end of the tunnel started to fade. But once I found The Los Angeles Film School and its hands-on approach, the light came back. Since the program better fit my abilities and personality, I have been able to grow both as a person and as a filmmaker. With all the assignments and recourses from the school, I have been able to make a number of films and develop my craft. I even found a genre that suits me well, comedy. Though my answers to this interview might not be funny, I assure you that my films are. And each one is better and funnier than the last, which seems to be the right direction to be heading in. Needless to say, I finally found my place.
