Today we’d like to introduce you to Maura Moynihan.
Maura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my private practice when my first son was about a year old. In chiropractic school, I began my studies with The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and concentrated my focus on serving women with their physiological changes in pregnancy, post-partum as well as the pediatric population. Going through my own experience of pregnancy, birth and mothering really anchored a deep regard for women opening to birth and meeting their resistance, pain, fear on their journey as they expand and transform on all levels. As my family and practice grew, so did my training with a Masters in Spiritual Psychology with an emphasis on Consciousness, Health and Healing. This education is the foundation where I meet my patients – that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. My practice grew from working out of my home to working side by side with midwives at a birth center, to my current clinic in Culver City, where we serve families on the physical, emotional and energetic levels through chiropractic, craniosacral, spiritual life coaching, women’s transformation groups, physical therapy and reiki/energetic healing. Our center supports the entire person not just their symptoms. Although symptoms is often what brings people to seek care, the origin of the dis-ease often lies in deeper layers and we are trained to assist our patients in healing layer by layer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has had its twists and turns. Until recently I have had a solo practice, I had the awareness that Rosewood was ready to grow when it was obvious that more families were in need of care and I was only able to serve so many. Going from the one and only to bringing on other practitioners definitely has provided learning opportunities and pushing the comfort zone. But that is what growth is. Pushing the comfort zone, getting uncomfortable, looking at things from a new perspective and changing things up. Thankfully since supporting women to birth for so long, I was aware that I was going through my own birthing and was able to practice the skills and tools I speak of so often with my patients. Doing my research, diving in, trusting, asking for guidance, communicating, acceptance, etc. All growth is spiritual, so although the growth of my practice has had some bumps I choose to use it for my own upliftment, growth and learning.
Rosewood Family Healing Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Rosewood Family Healing Center serves the families of Los Angeles, although we specialize in pregnancy and pediatrics we support men and women of all ages. We are known for working closely with pediatricians, midwives, obstetricians, naturopaths, pediatric dentists, M.D.’s, O.T.s and ENT’s to come up with comprehensive treatment plans. We are known for our compassionate, loving care as well as our skill. We are known for assisting a patient beyond the musculoskeletal level while working from a holistic model and taking into consideration a patient’s stress level, life circumstances, and unique presentation. We offer collaborative services like spiritual life coaching, women’s transformative groups, reiki healing and breathwork therapy to facilitate healing on the mental, emotional and unconscious levels.
What I am the proudest of Rosewood for is the quality of care. The authentic loving that is shared between the practitioners and their patients. Rosewood is all heart. And as my teachers Ron and Mary Hulnick say, healing is the application of loving to the places inside that hurt. Rosewood is a place of healing that truly gets to know and love the families we serve. Our appointments are typically an hour long and in that hour true connection takes place. The space that is provided is the platform where babies, kids and adults release, clear, heal and discover a deeper level of wellness.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
You know, the proudest moment of my career comes in the form of the referrals that come into care. I have never, ever marketed our services, my career is built on the reputation of the care to the families we serve. I am so proud to be a part of a collective space of integrity, support, and healing. Due to the longstanding relationships with my patients over the past twelve years, I have had a front-row view, witnessing many women take on their role of mother and struggle with incorporating themselves into their life. I saw how my female patients were yearning for a community to connect and process and grow into themselves and the calling of their hearts. This past year, Rosewood began offering spiritual life coaching and 6-month transformational women’s groups to meet these needs and it has exceeded my wildest expectations.
