Today, we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Williams. Matthew was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Vard Movsisyan.
Matthew , can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Prior to landing my first big job as an web-developer in San Francisco, I never really gave much thought to fashion. However, as I settled into my new office on the 10th floor, surrounded by stylish colleagues, I couldn’t help but notice the impact of having their excellent taste in clothing. Enthralled by my better dressed coworkers, I realized the importance of dressing well and decided that it was something I wanted for myself.
After relocating to Los Angeles the following year, I attempted to upgrade my wardrobe on my own. While my had style improved, I found myself feeling unsatisfied with my purchases. Despite knowing what I liked on others, the pieces didn’t seem to resonate with me once I wore them in public.
More recently, as a single guy in the competitive LA dating scene, I decided it was time to seek help and find a stylist. I spoke with nearly 10 different professionals, each varying in skill and cost, but Vard stood out the most. She impressed me with her level of focus and attention to my needs and I felt like she genuinely listened to my previous fashion struggles.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
For the last 7 years I’ve been working as a software engineer in the tech-industry here on the west-coast. I mostly specialize in building out user-interfaces for client-facing applications like retail websites or account dashboards. I’ve always been passionate about building modern, high-performing applications, with a flair for exciting visuals. The part I love most about my industry is the people I work with. Such a big part of my job is the work culture and the people I get to see every day. I think a lot of people see being a programmer as a lonely desk-job, but it’s extremely social and team-oriented.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by VARD/MOV and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with VARD/MOV.
Before working with Vard, I was hesitant to set high expectations. My previous experience with a remote stylist had missed the mark, so I was apprehensive. I figured at worst, I’d able to return any purchased items later if I didn’t end up liking them.
But much to my delight the experience was anything but disappointing. After providing her with some details about myself and my fashion preferences, Vard selected a nearby shopping center for us to meet at. Upon my arrival, she had already curated a selection of outfits for me to try on. The process was effortless and efficient.
We discussed each piece in detail, and Vard was attentive to my needs and preferences. She was also extremely flexible in finding alternative options if something didn’t quite work. To my surprise, I ended up purchasing almost everything she suggested. The final result was fantastic, and her feedback throughout the process boosted my confidence.
Overall, the experience was wonderful, and I look forward to working with Vard again. Her expertise made for an enjoyable and successful styling session with no regrets.
