Meet Matthew Gaskill of Sotheby’s International Realty in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Gaskill.

Matthew, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my career in real estate while getting an MFA in Creative Writing and fell in love with the business, focusing full-time on real estate upon graduation. I had wanted to be an architect as a child but went another direction since math and I do not get along.

My desire to artfully connect clients with distinguished homes was shaped through my appreciation of fine architecture and years of experience in customer service and hospitality. Ingrained with the mentality of these industries, I strive to anticipate my clients’ every need and guide them through the process of buying and/or selling what is, for many, their most valuable asset.

My immersion into the business of real estate and attention to detail afforded me immediate success as a Realtor and I have been a top producer at every office in my career, having guided clients through over 150 real estate transactions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been an effort to get where I am today and I’m thankful for the journey since it has provided me with plenty of opportunities for learning and growth.

After building a successful business in Boston, I relocated to Los Angeles, a city where I knew less than 10 people. So I had to learn not only the real estate market and the personalities of LA’s different neighborhoods but also develop relationships and find clients in a highly competitive market. It took a lot of hard work and effort, but I can be proud of the persistence and drive I needed to overcome those challenges.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sotheby’s International Realty story. Tell us more about the business.
I help people meet their real estate goals, whether that is finding their dream home, investing in real estate, or helping my clients sell their homes for the highest return possible.

Although I work from DTLA to Malibu, my main areas of focus are Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Hollywood Hills, and Holmby Hills.

My area of expertise if architectural and historic homes and Los Angeles allows me to advise clients in the purchases and sales of some of the most amazing architecture you will find in the world, especially when it comes to the greats such as Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lloyd Wright, Pierre Koenig, John Lautner, Ed Fickett, Gordon Kaufmann, Paul Williams, Hal Levitt, Greene and Greene, Ray Kappe, and others.

I believe in providing my clients with both market knowledge and white-glove concierge service. The clientele I work with is used to working with the top professionals in any industry and they know what to expect and they demand results. I provide a level of service in line with those expectations.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe hard work will open up opportunities and will prepare me to make the most of those opportunities when they come along.
