Meet Matthew Buser of Buser Legal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Buser.

Hi Matthew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.

I took a somewhat “non-traditional” route and opened up my own shop fairly early on in my career. I knew at the initial stage that I had a vision for how I wanted my career to go and how I wanted my firm to be run.

I don’t believe that there is a set path that anyone needs to take, so long as you stay focused and persistent in trying to reach your goals. Additionally, and most importantly, you must maintain your morals and ethics, and genuinely be a good person. I believe that success shines on those who do right for others.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?

Every road has its bumps but it’s how you get over those bumps that matter. At one point in my career, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to pay rent at both my apartment and office in certain months. Fortunately, I maintained focus and persevered through the struggle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

I am a solo legal practitioner with an amazing team. I primarily specialize in all areas of entertainment representation on the company, executive, and talent sides.

My clientele is about 85% music based, with the rest being in fashion, film/tv, fine arts, adult entertainment, influencers, and professional sports. By virtue of this clientele, I also work very heavily in the NFT/crypto space and the legal cannabis market. For this kind of clientele, I handle three main areas of the law: contracts, corporate formation and governance, and brand protection by way of federal trademarks in the US.

I am most proud of sticking with it. It would have been much easier to have taken a higher-paying job in a different area of the law instead of trying to plant roots in a relationship-driven industry like entertainment. Noting that I do not see my fellow attorneys as competition but more so from a collaboration perspective, I offer thorough, efficient services and a keen ability to break down complicated legal issues and “legalese” in a layperson format so my clients can better understand the business.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Persistence. I am on my position not by accident. #notyouraveragelawyer
