Meet Matias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matias.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Matias. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My background, my story, and my voice. I think growing up in a multicultural household really set the stage for who I am today as an artist. Being raised by parents from two totally different parts of the world really made me diverse in my interests, thoughts, and views on the world. This also made me question a lot of things about life and I think through my music, I’ve been piece by piece finding my answers. Through my music, I decided to take a leap of faith and leave the US and starting living in Colombia to start connecting with my roots and reconnecting with a side of my self I never knew before. Up until a few years ago, I could barely speak Spanish. Music has been the story of my life, everything I have done and almost every move I make my music was always the deciding factor for my final decision. I think another thing that sets me apart is my voice. Throughout my whole life, I have really put an emphasis on building my talent as a singer. I really value and appreciate an artist who can stripe down a song to something as simple as guitar and piano and still put on an amazing show.

Has it been a smooth road?
A story I would like to share is how I went from singing music to writing my own music and wanting to be an artist. I have been involved in music since I was about seven years old. I started by performing in local musicals at my community theater. When I was about 14 years old, my father had an issue that ended up separating us for over five years and this was hands down one of the hardest things I ever went through in my life. My Dad and I have always been close so it really took a toll on me. I had to find an outlet. The year before this incident, my dad had bought me an acoustic guitar, it was with that guitar I found a way to express my emotions.

It was at that moment in my life I realized that music is so much more than just singing a song it is a gift, it’s a way to heal, it’s a language, and a tool that can speak louder than any person screaming at the top of their lungs. These things that happened in my life happened for a reason they were my training to prepare me for the long road ahead to understand patience, endurance, and solidify my passion. I realized that I was put on this earth to tell a story through my music and to help others who may be facing their own adversities.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My main focus in music is in Latin pop. I want people to feel from my music. I want to invoke emotions, relate and share a story with my audience. I feel music is the only language in the world that we can all speak. It’s through music that we can find a common connection to one another without words and simply because of feeling. As an artist, I want to be a leader of this movement and bring people together. What sets me apart from others is my story and my voice. I believe that a great artist should be able to remove all the production and be able to strip a song down to its most raw elements.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the industry taking a major shift toward more online and streaming. In particular with this whole COVID-19 situation, I can see this whole pandemic really shifting the industry and revolutionizing the digital wave.
