Meet Mateus Hueb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mateus Hueb.

Hi Mateus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am from Brazil and I have lived in LA for the past four years. I have a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Screenwriting and Directing. I’ve also taken multiple film courses, especially in São Paulo, where I got to produce and direct some short films. I have worked in some productions in LA as well and I am now currently producing a documentary and developing some scripts. Besides that, I’ve also been always connected to the film festival world. I was a guest curator and programmer at the Filmatique Talents, an online film festival that showcases a selection of shorts, and first and second features. I have also worked as a producer for the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival for the past four years, an event that is so dear to me, since it always brings the best in Brazilian cinema.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Working in the industry is very tricky and competitive, and I think it can be even harder if you’re a foreigner, but I believe Los Angeles is a great place for networking, so if you meet the right people and work hard, you can succeed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am passionate about telling stories, and I gravitate towards diversity, so anything that is not so frequently explored catches my attention. I love meeting people and creating together. Cinema is a collaborative experience, so it’s always very important to be surrounded by people with common interests.

What matters most to you? Why?
Being able to touch people through cinema and to tell meaningful stories, especially if it is about an uncharted and little-known matter.
