Meet Mary Andreasen of Strange Family Vineyards in Malibu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Andreasen.

Director of Business Development at Strange Family Vineyards

Mary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2012 Brian and Shamra Strange purchased an abandoned vineyard in hopes of bringing their newly blended family of seven together. United under a common goal, they set out to nourish and grow both the land and their family.

They were drawn to the beauty of Santa Barbara’s wine country, decided to plant roots and embrace vineyard life in Santa Rita Hills.

We firmly believe in the potential for love and devotion to restore all things, that no challenge is insurmountable, and so we worked to turn this once abandoned vineyard into a source of exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Armed with passion, resilience, and the desire to become more immersed in nature, we dedicated ourselves to honoring the land with the highest quality farming.

Our dream is to make Strange Family Vineyards a part of the every day celebration of life—to promote love and family with the hope of making a difference in the world.

Yes…Strange is the family’s last name.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s a new journey for all of us. We are figuring it out….It’s fun, exhausting, challenging and magical. It’s an incredible experience and we are only just beginning!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Strange Family Vineyards story. Tell us more about what you do.
Strange Family Vineyards’ goal is to be able to give back to the community. Proceeds from their profits are donated to charities. Currently, they support the Malibu Boys and Girls Club.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We have a lot on the horizon for SFV. We currently have a tasting room in Malibu at the Malibu Lumber Yard and are looking to one day have a public tasting room at our vineyard. Currently Guests can schedule private tastings at the vineyard through appointment only. We also rent out our main and guest house so guests can have the experience of staying on a vineyard. It really is a special place.

We hope to be a destination for weddings and retreats in the future. We are in the process of building a new Auberge resort at a historical property, Mattie’s Tavern in Los Olivos set to open in 2021.

Pricing:

  • Our wines range from $25-$42.
